The Strawberry Hearts Diner by Carolyn Brown - Book Reviews & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads Bookdepository
Review by Suze

Jancy wasn't planning on staying in Pick. She was just passing through the town where she spent some happy years. However, her car is broken and can't be fixed. When Jancy sees that the Strawberry Hearts Diner is looking for help she decides to check it out and offers her services. She has fond memories of the diner and the ladies who run it, Vicky and Nettie. They immediately treat her like family, but Jancy isn't there to stay, or is she?

Jancy is used to moving around a lot. She doesn't have any roots and has no idea if she's capable of growing them. While she makes friends in Pick and is happier than she's ever been she's also having doubts, is she like her father, who always wanted to leave as soon as he arrived somewhere? When someone is threatening to ruin everything that makes Pick special Jancy has to decide if she wants to stay and fight for the people she's grown to love or if she should go like she's always planned to.

The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a fantastic romantic story. Jancy is insecure and doesn't know how wonderful she is. She's sweet, smart and generous. I immediately loved her and couldn't wait to find out if she'd find some much deserved happiness in Pick. She's had a hard life and being with Vicky and Nettie is exactly what she needs to heal. I loved that The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a combination of heartwarming friendship, love and family and that this is being offered to every decent person who enters the premises.

Carolyn Brown's writing has a lovely easy flow that immediately made me like her story. The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a magical setting. It's warm and welcoming, a place that feels like home. Carolyn Brown's descriptions of food are mouthwatering and she makes this precious diner that means so much to many people come to life in an incredible way. The Strawberry Hearts Diner is such a gorgeous book, it's charming, entertaining, adorable and captivating. It's a mesmerizing feelgood story that put a big smile on my face.

Jancy lived in Pick for a couple of years, until her wandering father decided to move his family elsewhere. It was her happiest time, but Jancy never stayed there, or in any other place, long enough to make any real friends. After her mother passed away, she had to keep living with her father. Money was always tight and on many occasions Jancy had to work while she’d rather have been studying, so that she and her father would have a place to sleep. Will Jancy ever be able to settle down anywhere long enough to start calling it home?

Jancy is on her way to her cousin’s house when her car goes up in flames in Pick. She just visited her grandmother’s grave and wasn’t planning on staying. She’s sitting in the parking lot of the Strawberry Hearts Diner when Netty and Vicky, who own the diner, come to her rescue. Jancy can work at the diner and stay at their home until she gets back on her feet. Jancy wants to earn enough money so she can get to her cousin and figure out the next steps she should take in her life. When trouble is coming to town will Jancy stand united with her newfound friends or will she leave? Will Shane, the handsome local who’s proving to be a great friend, be a key factor in her decision?

Jancy had a rough childhood because of the constant moving from town to town to accommodate her father’s urges. Her mother loved her father very much and followed him wherever he wanted to go. Jancy is a hard worker, but hasn’t made the best choices in life. She’s sweet and resourceful and I loved her from the start. Jancy just wants to live a simple life and I loved how the community is taking her in straight away. She just needs the courage to allow herself to put down roots and I was cheering for her to open up to the possibility of finding peace, family, friendship and love.

The Strawberry Hearts Diner is a sweet and heartwarming story about finding a place to belong. I love small town romance and I kept swooning over the kind and caring Shane who lost his heart to Jancy so many years ago. When true love finds you, you don’t have to clip your wings because you won’t have the urge to fly away anyway and this is exactly the life lesson Jancy is about to learn, I really enjoyed witnessing this journey. I also loved reading about how people in a small community stand together in times of need. Suze is a big fan of Carolyn Brown’s books and after reading The Strawberry Hearts Diner I’m completely hooked on her stories as well.

If you love to read about second chance at love that will make your heart melt, The Strawberry Hearts Diner will be a perfect choice.

About Carolyn Brown

New York Times and USA Today bestselling author Carolyn Brown was born in Texas and raised in southern Oklahoma. These days she and her husband make their home in Davis, Oklahoma, a small town of less than three thousand people where everyone knows everyone, knows what they are doing and with whom, and read the weekly newspaper to see who got caught.

A plaque hangs on her office wall that says I know the voices are not real but they have such great ideas. That is her motto and muse as she goes through the days with quirky characters in her head, telling their stories, one by one, and loving her job.

She has been married almost half a century to a retired English teacher that she calls Mr. B and he does not read her books before they are published because she cannot afford a divorce. They have three grown children.—and enough grandchildren to keep them busy and young.

When Carolyn is not writing she likes to sit in the back yard and watch the two tom cats protect the yard from all kinds of wicked varmints like crickets, other cats, spiders and blue jays.
