Sweet Home Highlander by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan - Book Review & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads Bookdepository

Review by Suze

Aisla and Niall have spent most of their married lives apart from each other. After a terrible fight Aisla left Scotland and built a life for herself in Paris. She left Niall behind and never looked back. When another man asks Aisla to marry him, she decides it's time for a divorce. To make this happen she has to return to Scotland. There she expects to meet a drunk, only looking for a good time, but Niall has become a successful castle and mine owner instead. One thing hasn't changed though, he's still angry with his wife and his mood won't improve when Aisla tells him about her plans for the future. Will he give her what she wants?

Niall has done everything in his power to improve himself. He's a fair employer and works as hard as the people he's now the laird of. He still loves Aisla. She drives him crazy in many different ways. Niall doesn't intend to let Aisla go this time. Instead he suggests a wager that includes one week in his castle for each of their married years. Will Aisla survive spending six weeks with the man she despises and what will happen once she takes the time to get to know her husband, will she dislike him as much as she thought she would or does he stir up feelings in her that she thought she'd left behind when she traveled to Paris?

Sweet Home Highlander is an amazing passionate story. Aisla and Niall have a troubled relationship. They constantly challenge one another. They are jealous, insecure and misinformed, which leads to all kinds of terrible arguments. There's much explosive chemistry between them and they are both outspoken and fierce, which provides plenty of fireworks and sizzling attraction. I liked the combination of true love and the journey of two strong people who have become remarkable adults with admirable character traits. It's a wonderful basis for a story and works very well.

Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan are making Scotland in the first half of the nineteenth century come to life in a terrific way. I loved their vivid descriptions of clan politics, Niall's beautiful castle and his amazing inventions and family life during that time. Sweet Home Highlander captivated me straight away. I adored the main characters, enjoyed the high dosage of tension and had a lot of fun reading the romantic part of the story. Sweet Home Highlander is entertaining, fascinating, gripping and incredibly romantic.

  7. So I've never read much in the Romance genre before, but I'm thinking of expanding my reading range and trying some - maybe this one's a good start since I already know I like everything else about it (setting in my Scottish homeland + historical details = yes please!) :)
