Review by Suze

Even though Lunden is a Duke, he isn't a popular member of the ton. Instead he's living a secluded life far away from society and its ruthless gossip and rumors. He's forced to leave this part of his life behind for a while though, because his best friend needs his help. Matthew's parents desperately want their daughter Amelia to find a husband. Amelia has a strong spirit and doesn't want to spend the rest of her life with someone she doesn't love. Therefore she makes it incredibly difficult for her suitors to get close to her. Her family is running out of time and therefore Matthew asks Lunden for his help. Is he the right man for the job?

Amelia makes sure she has an agreement with Lunden, she doesn't want to let a man choose a husband for her. Lunden will advise and guide her, but Amelia still wants to decide what happens to her own future. While Lunden tries to help her, Matthew has different plans though that will break her lively spirit without a doubt. Meanwhile the attraction between the Duke and his best friend's sister keeps growing. This is a compicated situation for him, because of his reputation Lunden doesn't think he should be anybody's husband. Can they resist temptation? Will Amelia get the chance to marry the man of her dreams or will she end up with a broken heart and a husband she loathes?

London's Wicked Affair is a fabulous romantic story. I absolutely loved Lunden. He's a kindhearted and complex man with a fascinating multilayered personality. Amelia challenges him, which is exactly what he needs. She is strong, daring and stubborn. She knows what she wants and isn't afraid to fight for her rights. I liked her fiery spirit a lot. It was fun to read about her dreams, wishes, adventures and plans. Her life is about to change and I enjoyed reading about every single step towards the future she's envisioned for herself. I love stories about courageous women and London's Wicked Affair definitely delivers in this area, as well as in many others. It's a complete story with a large number of intriguing scenes and plenty of chemistry.

Anabelle Bryant has a terrific descriptive writing style. She makes the time she writes about come to life in a fantastic way. It was easy to picture the dresses, the balls, the customs and the bright and dark side of being part of society. She clearly understands what she's writing about and effortlessly transported me to another time and place. The joy her writing is giving her is obvious and this gave me a happy feeling the entire time I was reading. London's Wicked Affair is a gorgeous entertaining story that captivated me from beginning to end.

If you love regency romance London's Wicked Affair is an absolute must-read.

What makes my heart beat faster
Guest post by Anabelle Bryant

As an author of historical romance, I spend a lot of time thinking about my character’s feelings. What causes them to respond to each other and how I can show those subtle emotions through words and actions. It’s not very often that I stop and consider what makes my own heart beat faster.

At first, a dozen answers come to mind. A visit to the beach, a new book, rich chocolate, a handsome stranger, hearing good news, a tight hug from a loved one – but once I filter through all the immediate responses and truly consider what causes a maddening sense of elation, I’m left with an exercise of self-discovery.

What makes my heart beat faster?

Ever since my childhood, I’ve been an achiever. I am one of three children in the family and my brother and sister weren’t as driven toward success as I was while we grew up. Whether in school or at home, I’ve always made goals and worked hard to meet them. Little accomplishments led to greater milestones which ultimately compose the person I am today, regardless I’m still very much a work in progress.

With this reflection I realize what makes my heart beat faster is defined in one word: challenge. The desire to push myself harder and strive for a dream. To improve myself and continue to grow. To use the tools I have and constantly acquire new learning. To continually prove I’m engaged and yearning for new chapters in my life.

I suppose that’s not the answer anyone anticipates from a romance author. I won’t lie, there’s several other heart-quickening experiences I enjoy. An unexpected compliment, a passionate embrace or sexy flirtation are a few, and they all cause my heart to beat faster. In that way, the combination is perfectly suited to historical romance and the stories I bring to the page whether writing a happily-ever-after ending or living one.
