What Makes My Heart Beat Faster by Linn B. Halton - Guest Post & Giveaway

About Linn B. Halton

I write heart-warming stories about life, love and relationships. Above all it’s about the feelgood factor, as isn’t everyone simply chasing the dream of a happy life with the one they love? And dreams do, often, come true but in real life it’s seldom a case of everything instantly falling into place. So I write about the journey …

For those who like labels: romance, psychic romance, chick lit, women’s contemporary fiction, romantic comedy – but the aim is still the same – a feelgood read that will touch your heart!

When I’m not writing my husband and I are serial house movers and love getting hands-on with the renovation work. My background in interior design is a passion that will never leave me – or my love for upcycling furniture! We love going for walks in the Forest of Dean, which is now our home after spending most of our married life in Bristol. It’s a very spiritual place and for me it felt like coming home. I love taking photographs and seem to capture quite a few orbs as I snap away, something I find comforting. I feel blessed to be able to spend my working life writing and it’s only the wonderful readers and reviewers who have made that happen ~ for which I am eternally grateful!

So if you are looking for something to curl up and escape with, you can read chapter 1 from each of my novels by clicking on the covers. I do hope you find something that makes you want to keep turning those pages!

Linn B. Halton also writes as Lucy Coleman

What makes my heart beat faster
Guest post by Linn B. Halton

Well, it isn’t always a romantic hero…

Your heart is simply (and rather unromantically) a muscle, but you can make it LEAP in your chest. That moment when your emotional state soars, making the blood rush around your body and catching the heart unawares, is a leap of joy.

So many things make my heart beat faster and they are all inspired by love. Sometimes it’s in response to a romantic gesture from my other half, a reminder that true love is for ever. But often it’s about love in the fuller sense of the word. Those small moments in life that you realise are golden because they touch your heart and your soul; little gifts that if we aren’t mindful, we can overlook, or simply fail to appreciate.

Mindfulness is a bit of a buzz word these days and that’s a wonderful thing. It’s raising awareness of the need to stand back and think about what makes us happy. And keep doing it.

So, I thought I’d share some of the things that made my heart beat faster recently and reminded me of how good it is to be alive. And how lucky I am: -

Watching my husband, and soul mate, laughing at he chased a frog around the hallway that the cat had brought in. It was 3 a.m in the morning. He is my hero.

Playing hide and seek around the house with the kids and knowing they will both be under the bed for the umpteenth time. And that they will squeal when I suddenly discover them.

My daily meander around the garden, usually in the company of a feline named Ziggy, is a welcome break in my working day. I notice each little spurt of growth; each new bloom as it unfurls. The scents and glorious colours are a joy to behold and it’s a simple but powerful way to unwind.

Sitting at my desk and typing ‘The End’ and feeling I have done a story justice. Then opening a blank page and typing a brand-new title.

Receiving an email from a reader who said she loved Grace, a character in one of my books, who brought back fond memories of her own grandmother.

Lastly, this one filled my heart with love to almost bursting point: -

Billy (he’s 8) said he’d left me a special surprise on my iPad. Usually it’s a drained battery because he loves his computer games! But while I was putting little Maddie to bed he’d coloured in a heart with ‘I love you’ above it on the Pixel Art app, just for me.

And yes, my heart did skip quite a few beats…
