  1. I usually purchase a book straight away after reading a recommendation and the whole review would convince me to buy something.

  3. Reviews and posts about books often convince me to buy the books and read them.

  4. I hardly purchase books anymore. I get them from the library. The only time i purchase books is if it is one of my favorite authors and I can't find it t the library yet.

    ReplyDelete
  5. I don't buy books for myself very often as I don't really get time to read. But I do buy books for my Mum who reads a lot.

  6. Once or twice a month I buy print copies, e-copies more often. But if a reveiwer has the same taste in books as me then simply her/his rating is enogh to convince me to buy a certain book, otherwise I ususally check what they think about the writing and the worldbuilding and also if there is romance in the book

  7. I more often than not check out the library before checking out shops and online, opting for the best price, sometimes, if I feel rich, I'll just go buy then n there though!!

    ReplyDelete
  8. Depends, but I like to read about the reader expirience with the book :)

  9. Not very often - if its an author I'm unfamiliar with then I will likely borrow the book from the library as I've been burnt before spending money on books which were nowhere near as good as they were purported to be. If I like the book enough to want to read it again then I will buy it and any subsequent books (a lot of the fiction books I read are series). I don't pay that much attention to reviews really, unless I'm writing one myself and want to compare with what others have said about a book - I've seen dreadful reviews for books I thought were fantastic and vice versa. I might take a chance on an ebook if its only a pound or two. Rafflecopter entries are in my real name NIKKI HAYES, thanks for another great giveaway :o)

  10. I very seldom buy books. I either win them or read those that are free through Amazon Prime. In general, I make a purchase when the majority of reviews are 4 out of 5 or above

  11. I usually buy one book a month. If it's a book by an author I like that sounds good I buy it as soon as it comes out.

    ReplyDelete
  12. I often check out reviews and book lists to choose my next read!

  13. I rarely read reviews in anticipation of buying a book. I either pick by a verbal recommendation by someone I know or the backcover blurb or it is an author I love to read..

    ReplyDelete
  14. It's never happened that I buy a book due to a review that I've read, I generally buy books due to the author or the cover blurb,

    ReplyDelete
  15. it depends on the plot of the book I don't really pay attention to reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  16. That's tricky. It depends... sometimes just knowing who the author is, and I quicly check it out/buy. Other times the plot calls me and that's super subjective, depending on mood or what I'm into at the moment, etc.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Way more than half of the books I get are because pf recommendations. Sometimes a book cover will cause me to buy a book. I also read samples after a story line grabs me.

    ReplyDelete
  18. Rarely. I usually win or get books as gifts.. But I do buy them once in a while at the store I read the first chapter.

    ReplyDelete
  19. It all depends upon my book budget. If the first page is compelling I will think about purchasing.

    ReplyDelete
  20. It depends on my finances at the time & the other books that are on my TBR. There are some books that I just want to read sooner rather than later, so they'll be higher on my list. If there's not a blurb included with/near the review, then I need the review to include what the book is about.

    ReplyDelete
  21. I tend to take my time deciding when to buy a book. I read reviews, especially the negative ones to see if the book has the elements I usually hate in books. It also depends if I have the budget for it. - Leah A

    ReplyDelete
  22. I pay very close attention to reviews. I have even been offered free books that I didn't get because of consistently low reviews. I really enjoy discovering new authors - new to me and I am always reading reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  23. Sometimes, but most likely if I have read/heard more than 1 review. Could be anything that persuades me.

    ReplyDelete
  24. I buy 2 or 3 books a months, I enjoy reviews on blogs and Amazon but what will convince me to read a book is the story appeals to me mainly.

    ReplyDelete
  25. I normally don't purchase a book after reading a recommendation, because there are a lot of recomendations (so I would purchase a lot of books), but I like to know if the book has a good story and good characters.

    ReplyDelete
  26. I will sometimes buy books (or get them from the library) based on a review. Often what tempts me is when reviewers compare to other books that I've enjoyed.

    ReplyDelete
  27. Sometimes I do buy a book after seeing a review. I love reading reviews and putting them on my wish list with the view to buying :-)

    ReplyDelete
  28. Usually, I borrow books from the library.

    ReplyDelete
  29. Not that often. Let me explain.
First it goes on my wishlist, so it might take a year for that book to actually be bought and it is usually an xmas present as I give SO a list and says this is what I want ;)
Or I tell the library to get a book and that might take time too.

reviews are a big yes, I do get most of my wishes from those

    ReplyDelete
  30. The part of a review that might convince me to buy something is definitely when they talk about the characters, if they have personality, are they unique, dimensional, etc.

I usually buy a mix of books that I've seen recommended on blogs and then just books I've discovered on my own from browsing. I definitely keep reviews in mind when I'm choosing since I'm on a book budget, it's just helpful having those other opinions to narrow down my options.

    ReplyDelete
  31. Reviews frequently influence which books I buy especially book bloggers whose opinion I trust.

    ReplyDelete
  32. If it's a clean must-read, I will buy it within the year.

    ReplyDelete
  33. I don't read reviews, but if a friend who loves the book recommends it, there's a 80% chance of me buying and reading it.

    ReplyDelete
  34. I would add it to my wishlist but also be reading more than 1 recommendation. I would go through the reviews and check that out. I wouldn't purchase something off the bat. :)

    ReplyDelete
  35. I will often add it to my to read books list and then when I am shopping online, I might purchase it.
It all depends on what the book is about.

    ReplyDelete
  36. "How often do you purchase a book after reading a recommendation and what part of a review might convince you to buy something?" I mostly buy books after being influenced by a beautiful or intriguing cover that tells me it will be interesting and different. I judge according to the cover, the publisher, the general plot. If I look at goodreads, I will opt to look at the lowest, one-star reviews first, because often the 3 or 4 scathing reviews will be obviously correct, despite 1,000 glowing reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  37. Hmmm...more often than not I add books to my TBR on GR vs buying them right away. As for reviews, it can be quite random. There are key words and tropes and situations that are more appealing to me than others that might interest me in a book more.

    ReplyDelete
  38. I do get influenced by reviews on Good Reads probably more the poor ones which might put me off trying a book but in the main I can tell if I am going to like a book by it's cover and blurb

    ReplyDelete
  39. I don't often buy books based on reviews or reccomendations, I prefer to browse directly by myself (I judge the book from the cover and if I like it I'll read the plot...). Whenerver I read reviews, however, I go straight to the 1 or 2 stars ones, I want to know why does readers didn't like the novel

    ReplyDelete
  40. I will occasionally buy a book if it itches an itch, but I need to be careful not to have more books than I can read.

    ReplyDelete
  41. It just depends on the how it sounds to me. I do once in a while..

    ReplyDelete
  42. Me buying a books depends on various things. I do check the reviews and read the blurb. Than I go and look what the readers that love the same books that I do say about the book. Than I decide.

    ReplyDelete
  43. I buy books when I like it and not when somebody tells me. I've learned that people have different tastes so what others like, doesn't mean I'll like it too. So I don't buy books because other recommend them to me, but when I feel like it. I usually buy books that I have previously borrowed in the library so I already know that they are good.

    ReplyDelete
  44. I tend to add books to my wishlist rather than buying them (in the hope someone will buy them for me!) I'm always drawn to books when the reviewer mentions good characterisation.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Thanks for a wonderful share. Your article has proved your hard work and experience you have got in this field. Brilliant .i love it reading. amazon price comparison

  46. I get many books and send the ones I think my sisters would enjoy to them to check out So I know they order many after I send them the links and I try to get them as many as possible if I feel they will enjoy them. Between my kids and sisters, I wish they'd slow down just a bit. They are fast readers.

    ReplyDelete
  47. I purchase after reading a recommendation probably on a 1/10 scale, and I very rarely let a review influence my decision

    ReplyDelete
  48. I rarely rush out and purchase a book based on someone's recommendation. I don't read book reviews.

    ReplyDelete
  49. I sometimes will purchase/read a book based on someones recommendation - it depends on the story of the booK! If it is something that interest me genre style I am more inclined. I like reviews to get a broad view of what people felt

    ReplyDelete
  50. I usually buy books in charity shops, I read review on the back of the book first, I also check that the writing isn't to small

    ReplyDelete
  51. I often purchase books I hear about on blog reviews. If it's a blogger whose recommendations I've liked in the past, it makes me more likely to buy -- just because I know they have a similar taste in books.

    ReplyDelete
  52. i often buy after reading reviews!!

    ReplyDelete
  53. I purchase books after reading reviews quite often - what I think influences me most about reviews is simply the action of making me aware of new books that have been published, that I might have otherwise been unaware of.

    ReplyDelete
  54. I have to like the story description. If the story sounds good and, it has many great reviews, I am likely to buy the book.

    ReplyDelete
  55. I am normally influenced on reviews

    ReplyDelete
  56. i am an avid reader, so buy books monthly - we do tend to pass books around once we have read them,

    ReplyDelete
  57. I haven't bought a book for a very long time. The books I read are all won in giveaways.

    ReplyDelete
  58. I have so many books waiting to be read and friends are always lending me books, so I really only buy books with amazing reviews

    ReplyDelete
  59. Not often compared to how many reviews I actually read. If the book premise catches my eye I buy it when I have money in the book fund. Lately I've been broke and if it's over .99 I ignore it even if I want to read it so badly. Just add to wishlist/tbr and move on.

    ReplyDelete
  60. I am buying printed copies regularly based on friends ,family recommendations.Thank you for a great giveaway.x

    ReplyDelete
  61. I very often buy books based on recommendations - I like no spoiler reviews but like to hear if the ending has been good

    ReplyDelete
  62. Occasionally- especially if there are a lot of reviews from different people and I like the sound of the book.

    ReplyDelete
  63. Sometimes I do buy a book after reading a review.

    ReplyDelete
  64. Depends on the reviews I read, if it's more than 80 per cent good, I will buy it. But 50/50 I might wait a bit longer. Also depends on the author, if it's a "favourite" author I will get it straight away.

    ReplyDelete
  65. Sometimes I will purchase a book when recommended

    ReplyDelete
  66. I usually purchase a book if I like the author and sometimes I see a review it makes me want to buy

    ReplyDelete
  67. I don't usually buy books by reviews, but if it's from a close friend, I just might...

    ReplyDelete
  68. If it sounds good I buy it right away. I add it to my to read list if it's something I am interested in.

    ReplyDelete
  69. I'm not very often buy books because i it depends on my budget and i read slow, although, it will land on my wishlist. However, a review that fits to my interest would make it very tempting to purchase the book. Some words in the review can make a book very appealing, like "gripping", "story layers", "hillarious", etc, and when there is "great world building/ setting details" or similar.
