Monsterland & Monsterland Reanimated by Michael Okon - Book Reviews & Giveaway

Book reviews by Anniek

Wyatt's life is anything but easy. His father never really paid attention to him and his younger brother and they haven't seen him after the divorce. His father only cared about his career and money and then dies under mysterious circumstances. Wyatt has to come to terms with his new home situation. Fortunately he still has his friends, they always discuss creatures and if either vampires, werewolves or zombies are the strongest. When word gets out that a place called Monsterland will be opened in their small town they're over the moon. What would a theme park filled with these creatures be like?

Vincent Konrad is very rich and he's opening Monsterland theme parks in six different places at once. He's spent a lot of time preparing for every kind of situation. Many important people are invited to a special behind the scenes tour on opening night. Vampires are almost extinct and they see this place as a new start, somewhere they can be safe. Werewolves have been taken against their will and have been planning their escape ever since. Zombies don't really have a mind of their own anymore when the infection settles in, but some are not that far along. How can a park full of monsters ever be risk free?

Wyatt and his friends get behind the scenes invitations from Vincent Konrad when he steps into the diner where Wyatt works. They can't wait to see what's lies inside the park's enormous gates. Nobody expects that Vincent Konrad built his theme parks with hidden motives. He wants total control of the world and has carefully planned the opening night. The teens are in for the ride of their life and I couldn't wait to find out who would be up for the thrill.

Monsterland is a terrifying story about each of your worst nightmares under one roof. I'm a big fan of the Jurassic Park movies and Monsterland reminded me of those. People will always be challenging their fears and I think that if a park like Monsterland would be built, it would attract a lot of visitors. Would I buy a ticket? I would probably be one of the first to stand in line, but I would definitely be scared out of my mind. Michael Okon has taken a unique approach to scary books with Monsterland and I loved how he alternates between people and creatures. I absolutely loved this first Monsterland book and am eager to read more of Michael Okon's stories.

Just when people start thinking the monsters can't get to them anymore, Vincent Konrad has another trick up his sleeve. After the disastrous opening night of Monsterland the survivors are trying to pick up the pieces. The small towns are cut off from all communication and the world is in chaos. Vincent Konrad has thought of everything and his loyal assistant set his plan B in motion as soon as he could. The army is coming to Monsterland and so is a brilliant doctor who's been researching how to bring the dead back to life. Are the survivors skilled enough to fight off this next attack?

Area 51 has captured a fluid that's come from aliens. They've been doing experiments with this purple liquid and it seems to get stronger with every life force it takes. It seeks human heat and will devour everything in its path. Rows of the undead are lined up to become the biggest monster army the world has ever seen. Vincent Konrad is not ready to give up his plans of world domination and will go after it with everything he has. He was expecting the chaos that came after the destruction of Monsterland and is ready to rise from the ashes. He doesn't count on a strong group of survivors that doesn't back down without a fight. When the world is recovering from the biggest attack its ever faced, who will still be standing after all is said and done?

Wyatt and his friends each have skills of their own. After the horrors at Monsterland they've seen the worst and survived. Wyatt's best friend has disappeared and they fear that he might not have made it out alive. The teenagers are smart, resourceful and quick to think. They know that the world is depending on them and with the help of Wyatt's stepfather they go to a neighbouring town to find more survivors. Their trip is filled with scares by people who were once at the top of society, now roaming the streets to take everyone out who comes into their territory. Will they manage to survive this next ordeal?

Monsterland Reanimated is the second book in the gripping Monsterland series. It's fast-paced and filled with action. The teenagers are strong young people and I loved how they're taking care of each other. I was rooting for them to find the answers they need before it would be too late. I loved how Michael Okon writes about many of the monsters from everyone's nightmares and makes them feel so real. I could easily imagine mummies roaming the streets, searching for their next victim and I really like it when an author stimulates my vivid imagination. Michael Okon's main characters really stand out and because of them, this story is fabulously thrilling. The Monsterland series is an absolute must-read, it kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end.
