Dee's Destiny & Aiden's Mark by Baileigh Higgins - Book Reviews & Giveaway

Book reviews by Anniek

Dee is standing in line to go into the most popular night club in town. She's there with her boyfriend Aiden. Unfortunately his twin sister Eliza and her best friend have also come along and the girls can't stand each other. Eliza and her friend enter the club first and it's not long after that the screams of the people who are inside are frightening those on on the street. People covered in blood are running out of the club, trying to get to safety from whatever is chasing them. Aiden goes into the club to save his sister. Will he find her in time?

Dee has agreed to wait in the car, but when she sees the seriousness of the situation she goes in after Aiden to make sure they'll make it out together. The lose each other in the chaos and Dee can't believe the horror she's seeing around her. The dead are walking around, trying to get their teeth into anybody who's still alive. Dee's very smart and she figures out what's happening incredibly fast. This makes her able to make the right choices and to avoid the infected as much as possible. Her parents' house is in a secluded area and can be fortified for when the dead are coming. Do her parents have any idea what is happening in the city?

Dee's Destiny is the fourth book in the Death's Children series and it's a terrifying story of a teenage girl who has to find her way to safety on her own. Dee loves Aiden very much and the thought of leaving him behind is devastating her, but she has to be realistic and has to get herself to a safe place. Dee knows how to use a weapon and she's certainly skilled enough to survive. I couldn't wait to find out what she would find at her parents' home and how she'd handle herself on the road. Baileigh Higgins has such a realistic writing style that the stories seem incredibly real and that made Dee's Destiny even more scary.

Aiden thought he was in for a fun night, but this changed very quickly when he suddenly had to fight for his life. He barely made it out of the nightclub he was visiting and his sister drove to their dorm as fast as she could. Aiden didn't want to leave his girlfriend Dee behind, but his sister didn't care enough to stay. He's planning to go back for Dee as soon as he can. When he opens his door Eliza's friend has turned into a zombie and attacks him. Instead of helping him, his sister abandons him to fend for himself. Aiden knows that one bite is enough to get infected as well. Does he have enough time left to get back to Dee?

Aiden is a kind and caring person. Even though he knows that his days are numbered, he's still taking care of other people. He knows that the dorm is filled with people and that it isn't a safe place to wait. He helps two girls to get home, so they at least have a shot at survival. Aiden feels his body changing and regrets that he couldn't be there for Dee when she needed him the most. The girls take Aiden with them to their house, making sure that he can't get to them once he turns. They'll watch him closely and will end his suffering when the time comes. How much time will Aiden have left?

Aiden's Mark is another short story by Baileigh Higgins that kept me on the edge of my seat. I connected with Aiden ever since I was introduced to him in Dee's Destiny. He's a passionate young man and he has a strong will to survive. I kept wishing that Aiden would have had another destiny. Baileigh Higgins is an experienced and skillful writer and she has written another brilliant story that I highly recommend. She is one of my favorite authors of bone-chilling zombie stories. I couldn't put Aiden's Mark down and read this story in one sitting.

Advice

If you're a fan of the zombie genre you shouldn't miss the Death's Children series. The stories can be read as standalones, but are better if you read them all in chronological order.
