  2. Being a lover of windswept spaces and big, open skies, I like nothing better than the dunes and salt marshes along the coastline of Batanes in the Philippines. Being able to walk for miles with only birds and occasional seals for company, just glorious for thinking things through, or better, clearing out a cluttered mind.

  66. I've never been abroad I won't get on a plane so I have to say here in the UK . My fave place is Robin Hoods Bay a lovely unspoiled little fishing village near Whitby. I go there when I can it has lots of childhood memories . My great aunt and uncle had a big house near the bay and they owned the old bakery there. Fresh mackerel straight from the boat and freshly baked bread for breakfast. I can smell it now. We slept in the attic and as the only toilet was in the cellar down 4 flights of steps we had gazunda' s under the beds. My great uncle kept chickens and there were always chicks . The eggs were lovely some had up to four yolks. He used to take us and show us where to find sea urchins and we'd go on long beach walks looking for jet . He knew what to look for. I have some pieces still from when I was little. There were gypsy people who came to the beach now and then with beautiful ponies to ride on. I had my favourite I always rode called 'Bubbles'. And boat trips . My uncle's picture is in the little museum now as a young man . He was a lovely and my Aunt too . We had no tv of course but we played Chinese chequers in the evening . Did such simple things that didn't cost anything but we're the most enjoyable.
