The Little Cottage on the Hill by Emma Davies - Book Review & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Maddie thinks she's found the perfect new job. She's been hired to promote a luxurious countryside holiday retreat. However, when she arrives at Joy's Acre she discovers the place is in complete disrepair. Seth, the owner of the cottages, doesn't want to turn his farm into a place that attracts rich business people. Instead he wants to bring it back in its original old fashioned state, which means they don't see eye to eye at all. Maddie can't go back to London, but Joy's Acre is also not what she expected, what should she do now?

Maddie and Seth are trying to find common ground, but that isn't easy when there are so many things he's keeping from her. They might share a house, but Seth isn't willing to let Maddie in, even if it has an effect on the job she's being hired to do. Just when things start to look up, Maddie's past threatens to make life difficult for her once more and Maddie doesn't know if she can face the consequences. What will happen to her once the reason why she left London comes out?

The Little Cottage on the Hill is a beautiful story about grief, love, secrets and dreams. Maddie is stressed and stiff. She can use some loosening up. She's also incredibly sweet and her good heart and caring nature are making it impossible to walk away from a daunting project. Seth is mysterious. He can be moody, but he's also kind and he has plenty of hidden depths that are making him really interesting to read about. I loved the tension between them and was curious to find out where it would lead. There's quite a bit of chemistry, but also a lot of baggage, which definitely makes the story interesting.

The Little Cottage on the Hill is a wonderful heartwarming story. I immediately fell in love with Joy's Acre, it's such a magical place. Emma Davies skillfully makes the countryside come to life with vivid descriptions of both the gorgeous surroundings and the quirky atmosphere. I was mesmerized by the property, its potential and the amazing community spirit. The Little Cottage on the Hill is a fantastic feelgood book. It's a story that put a big smile on my face, I love it when a story fills me with so much joy and highly recommend this charming dazzling book.

Advice

If you love stories with wonderful countryside settings, interesting main characters and fascinating secrets you should definitely read The Little Cottage on the Hill.

About Emma Davies

Hello, a little bit about me ......

Before we go any further there are two things you need to know: One - I love singing loudly in the car, and Two - I have a passion for Pringles.

If you're happy with both these things then please feel free to read on ....

Once upon a time I worked in a design agency where I was asked to write an amusing caption to go beside my details on their website. I wrote 'I am a best selling novelist currently masquerading as a thirty something mother of three.'

Well I'm now a forty something mother of three and am currently working on the rest. I'm a member of The Romantic Novelists' Association, and live with my husband, children, mother in law and two guinea pigs in rural Shropshire. I write in the gaps between real life.

  16. Sounds a perfect read for the summer. I really enjoy looks that are centred around new jobs and this sounds great. The fact that it's about "renovating" houses as well is a plus, as I love house programmes on the TV. :) The cover is sweet as well.
