  31. Do love the Harry Potter series and the amazing ideas what J K Rowling came up with to make them enjoyable for nearly everyone, although really young ones might find the films a bit scary. Massive Robert Hunter/Carlos Garcia fan too, so Chris Carter needs a mention. They are fantastic books, and although they are a series you can read them as a "stand alone" and still enjoy them. Don't think I read them in order, but absolutely love them and you can picture what the main characters would look like in real life.

  95. My favourite is not new, it's The Alexandria Quartet by Lawrence Durrell. Each book takes the name and viewpoint of a particular character. When you read the first book, Justine, it's a love story set in Alexandria just before and during WWII. Then when you read the next book, you get the same set of events but told from the viewpoint of another character, and then again with the 3rd book. You then realise that what seemed like a love affair was much more, there are spies and secret agents, and events have hidden meanings. The 4th book is set a few years later and ties all the loose ends together so you finally understand what was really going on. It's brilliant and I like that even once you've read all 4 books you can go back to the 2st book and re-read it to pick up on things you missed previously, or did not understand the significance of. Highly recommended!
