In With the Tide by Charlee James - Book Review, Guest Post, Excerpt & Giveaway

Review by Suze

Lindsey is back in her hometown. She's pregnant and divorced and hopes being in Cape Cod will heal her. The last person she expects to see there is Damien, her childhood best friend. They lost touch after sparks started to fly between them. Damien enlisted and couldn't leave quickly enough. Now that they've found each other again Lindsey and Damien can use each other's strengths and soon agreements are being made. Their feelings for each other never completely disappeared and they can't stay away from one another. Lindsey knows Damien isn't in town for good though and she isn't sure he'll change his mind.

Damien had a rotten childhood and the last thing he wants is being in the place that constantly reminds him of it. Damien is afraid to let anyone in and doesn't know if he can stay with Lindsey if it brings back so much pain to be in Cape Cod again. What will his heart tell him to do, will he be able to give love a chance? His biggest wish is to have his own family and this dream is within his reach, but fear keeps standing in his way, can he conquer it?

In With the Tide is a wonderful love story. Lindsey and Damien both deserve plenty of happiness. Lindsey is a sweetheart with a caring personality. Her ex-husband didn't appreciate her and didn't treat her well. She's heavily pregnant when she meets Damien and he instantly feels protective of her. He's such a gentle and kindhearted man and reading about his struggles brought tears to my eyes. He deserves to love and be loved and I kept hoping he'd find a way to overcome his obstacles. I love books about soul mates and it's clear from the start that Lindsey and Damien belong together. I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out if they'd have a future together.

Charlee James vividly describes the emotions of her main characters, which makes them come to life very well. I was instantly captivated by Lindsey and Damien. They're beautiful people. Charlee James clearly cares about her main characters and that makes her story extra special. She combines this with a stunning setting and I loved how it all comes together. I especially enjoyed the gorgeous ending. In With the Tide is an endearing romantic story filled with touching deep moments and real love.

If you love second chance love stories you should definitely read In With the Tide.

About Charlee James

Contemporary Romance Author Charlee James was introduced to a life-long love of reading listening to her parents recite nightly stories to her and her older sister. Inspired by the incredible imaginations of authors like Bill Peet, Charlee could often be found crafting her own tales. As a teenager, she got her hands on a romance novel and was instantly hooked by the genre.

After graduating from Johnson & Wales University, her early career as a wedding planner gave her first-hand experience with couples who had gone the distance for love. Always fascinated by family dynamics, Charlee began writing heartwarming novels with happily-ever-afters.

Charlee is a New England native who lives with her husband, daughters, two rambunctious dogs, a cat, and numerous reptiles. When she’s not spending time with her tight-knit family, she enjoys curling up with a book, practicing yoga, and collecting Boston Terrier knick-knacks.

In With the Tide
Guest post by Charlee James

Hello, With Love for Books readers! I’m so happy to be with you today to talk about my new release In With the Tide, the first book in the Cape Cod Shore Series from Tule Publishing.

This series is set in one of my favorite places, Cape Cod, Massachusetts. I have wonderful childhood memories of walking along the boardwalk over a lacework of marshes to the sandy dunes that lead to the beach. Of cranberry bogs dotted with tart fruit and quaint seaside cottages with weathered shingles and crushed seashell driveways—just like the one Lindsey Hunter buys

when she returns to her home town of Chatham pregnant and divorced. She’s determined to build a new life for her and her unborn baby.

When car trouble leaves her stranded on the side of the road, ex-Marine Damien Trent rides to the rescue on his motorbike. Once upon a time, they’d been friends and briefly, they’d been something more…until he enlisted and left her behind. As Lindsey and Damien reconnect, the attraction is still as strong as ever. But Lindsey knows Damien’s not the staying kind.

Damien would rather do anything than come home to deal with his father’s estate. After years of abuse, he was more than ready to leave town the moment he graduated. With Lindsey back in his life, everything is complicated. He’s used to being a lone wolf – until Lindsey and her newborn baby give him a glimpse of the kind of family and future he’s always dreamed of. Can he be brave enough to reach out and grab it?

Thank you for spending time with me on With Love for Books, and I hope you enjoy the excerpt from In With the Tide!

With love,

Damien inhaled the salty air and let it fill his lungs. The remote beach stretched on for miles without another person in sight, only shells and sand, seaweed and the occasional piece of driftwood. A reddish-gold glow painted the horizon, reminding him of the old mariners’ rhyme, “Red sky at night, sailors’ delight. Red sky at morning, sailors take warning.” He should have taken a warning before kissing Lindsey. As the kiss had changed from tender and sweet to an intensity that had nearly knocked him off his feet, he’d wanted nothing more than to drag her

into bed. Then the baby had given him a swift kick and reminded him that Lindsey was off-limits and he’d screwed up again.

When he pulled away he’d seen her flushed cheeks, the way her lips were swollen from rubbing against his. Desire clouded her wide eyes, and he’d almost drawn her back against him. He crouched down, picked up a flat rock, and flung it into the ocean. It hopped over the surf until it disappeared beneath the waves. What was he doing anyway? Lindsey was tremendously pregnant and looked as if she were ready to have her baby any day now. Whenever he got close, her belly bump pressed into him. It should have turned him off completely. Not because she wasn’t beautiful—she was as gorgeous as ever—but she had just as much, if not more, baggage than him. And once the baby came…

Kids had always made him uneasy. He wasn’t sure how to interact with them and he wasn’t sure he’d be the best role model for one. A child deserved someone they could look up to. Someone they could trust. And why was he even thinking about how he’d interact with Lindsey’s kid? Clearly her impending motherhood did nothing to curb his desire for her, or stop him from playing out scenarios in his head. Ones where he could be the type of man she deserved. But what did it matter? He was only here temporarily. He could help her in the short-term, but permanence wasn’t an option for him.
