A Vicarage Reunion by Kate Hewitt - Book Review & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Esther is always in control. She has a steady relationship and nothing out of the ordinary ever happens in her life. When a miscarriage causes emotional distress Esther doesn't know how to handle this. After two months Esther still doesn't feel any better. She and her husband Will don't talk about anything and she's had enough. That's why she leaves him and moves back in with her parents at the vicarage of Thornthwaite. Esther thought she'd be relieved that she's finally free, but instead she feels lonely and empty. How can she get her life back on track again and feel like herself once more?

Will is stunned when Esther leaves him all of a sudden. He has his farm and animals to look after and has no choice but to keep going, though he feels desolate without his wife by his side. The miscarriage caused a lot of grief for both of them, however, Will had no idea his wife was thinking about leaving him. Esther is his world and he wants nothing more than to be with the woman he loves. He tries to find a way to make Esther see that they still have a chance. Will he be able to pull it off and can Esther and Will save their marriage or is it too late to rescue it, when by not talking to each other they've neglected to make so many important decisions together?

A Vicarage Reunion is an emotional romantic story. I loved that Kate Hewitt has chosen to write about a marriage between two people who clearly love each other, but have plenty of issues. Esther is sad, there's something missing in her life and there are many things she should have said to Will, but couldn't because she never dared to speak about them. Her feelings are quite chaotic and Esther needs to find a way to sort through them, which was an interesting journey to witness. Will is as quiet as she is and that makes it difficult for them to share anything about themselves. Their non verbal communication used to be enough, but when that fails they have nothing to fall back on, which is an interesting topic for a moving love story. Esther and Will are wonderful people and I couldn't wait to find out if they'd be able to find happiness again.

Kate Hewitt has a fabulous welcoming writing style and her stories always have a heartwarming atmosphere. She skillfully makes her settings come to life through vivid and detailed descriptions. I loved reading about the vicarage and the farm. Will and Esther are fond of animals and that was something I really enjoyed about their personalities. A Vicarage Reunion is a multilayered love story with a lot of depth. Kate Hewitt's descriptions of the emotional turmoil her main characters are in is spot on and the story made me tear up quite a few times. There are many surprising moments and the ending is beautiful and put a big smile on my face. I absolutely loved A Vicarage Reunion, it's captivating, impressive, tender and touching.

If you love second chance love stories you will definitely like A Vicarage Reunion. It's the second story in The Holley Sisters of Thornthwaite series, but can easily be read as a standalone.

  1. I love the idea of your Hartley-by-the-Sea series because it's set in the Lake District, where I, as a teenager, spent lots of very happy summers helping out my cousin with her B&B and her husband on the farm. A wonderful experience.

  2. I'd love to live in a farm. Is the dog in the cover a beagle? *_* Fell in love already hehe.

  3. Love the cover and the romance sounds sweet and deep and heart-warming. I love it when two people learn to love each other better in a marriage! :D

  4. A Vicarage Reunion sounds like an emotional story that tackles heavy topics such as grief at the loss of a child, the pain caused by a lack of communication in a relationship, uncertainty over the future and the changing dynamics of family.
