Review by Suze

Jaime Thurston is the founder of 52 Lives, a charity that spreads kindness to someone every week of the year. In Kindness - The Little Thing that Matters Most she shows her readers how they can be kind, it doesn't take much effort to be kind to others and to yourself and it's incredibly rewarding. She divides her book in 52 different easy to achieve actions that anyone can accomplish. By giving her readers a guideline Jaime Thurston is spreading kindness.

Jaime Thurston has written a wonderful book about kindness. I loved that she gives her readers concrete examples on how they can be kind. There's also scientific information about kindness in the book, which is very interesting. Last, but not least, some amazing 52 Lives experiences are being shared, which shows the beauty behind the project.

Kindness - The Little Thing that Matters Most looks fantastic. The book is colorful, cheerful and very pretty, which gives it a gorgeous positive vibe. It has the exact right atmosphere and that makes it an attractive book to read and to give to someone as a gift. Kindness is important and it's handy to have a guidebook, sometimes knowing where to start can make a huge difference.

Jaime Thurston's writing has a nice easy flow, which enables the reader to focus on the content entirely. Kindness - The Little Thing that Matters Most is a heartwarming book, it looks inviting and welcoming, which is something I absolutely love. The best thing about this book for me though is how inspiring it is. I love how Jaime Thurston motivates people, makes them think, uncovers their potential and shows them how to be their best self. I highly recommend this beautiful book.

Be kind and buy Kindness. Support 52 Lives and/or do something kind for someone else by using this book as a guideline.

“Unexpected kindness is the most powerful, least costly and more underrated agent of human change.” These words by Bob Kerrey underpin the whole philosophy of my work.

When we are kind, it improves our own well-being and the well-being of those around us, it strengthens our communities and ultimately has the power to change the world. And that’s not an exaggeration - kindness changes lives, and is scientifically proven to have a positive affect on us – both physically and mentally. And in my job I’m lucky enough to witness this first hand every single week of the year.

In 2013, I started a Facebook page and called it 52 Lives. Every week, I shared a little story about someone in need of kindness and asked my friends and family if they help by donating household goods or services. That little Facebook page is now a global movement of almost 100,000 people who work together to spread kindness and change people’s lives. We also work in schools to run Kindness Workshops, which aim to empower children by helping them to realize that the choices they make every day have power – that what they do means something.

My book, ‘Kindness – the little thing that matters most’ is filled to the brim with ideas for how we can all be kinder. Each idea is backed up with nuggets of science, or the voices of people we have helped through the charity. I wanted the ideas to have substance, to feel worthwhile and most of all to inspire kindness.

Whatever your political views, the last few years have been unsettling, and there is a great deal of fear about the future. But we are not powerless. Our actions determine the kind of world we live in – so choose kindness at every opportunity.

  21. Love the sound of this and the fact that it is quoted as "easy-flowing" is a great idea. I struggle usually if it's a bit too deep. Kindness is slowly going out of fashion it seems. Everyone is all for themselves (where I live anyway) and don't care about anyone else.

  22. I love the cover of the book and it sounds beautiful! It'd love to read this book.

  23. I always say, a little bit of kindness goes a long way and I think your book sounds like a great source of inspiration (after all, 52 ideas/actions!) so I'd love to read it.

  24. I agree entirely with this guest post that kindness is a small thing but with a very positive result. Even something like just smiling at a stranger makes that person feel so much better and they smile back too. I love the idea of your FB page 52 Lives and look how that's grown, what a marvellous achievement, congratulations.
