Jennifer Brown's Journey by Angie Langley - Book Review, Guest Post & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Jennifer Brown's presence lights up every room. She might not be the best assistant, but her boss loves her and can laugh about her mistakes. Jennifer has the capacity to make other people's lives a little better, but she isn't happy herself. She has problems at home. Her boyfriend doesn't appreciate her at all and breaks her heart. Jennifer is ready for a change, but what should she do? She decides to leave her home and the office behind to become a chef and housekeeper for an older man. However, is this really a step in the right direction?

Jennifer's new boss is clearly not only looking for someone to run his household. He's oversexed and way too old for Jennifer, but that doesn't stop him from trying. After a little persistence they come to a understanding though. The job isn't forever and Jennifer learns a lot, until it's time to move on to something else, something better perhaps? Jennifer's next step is a country estate. She's supposed to manage it and the eccentric owners are making her stay incredibly interesting. Has Jennifer finally found her place in life, or is there more the world has to offer her?

Jennifer Brown's Journey is a wonderful heartwarming and funny story. I immediately loved Jennifer. She makes the most fantastic mistakes, she's gorgeous inside and out and she has a big heart. I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out how her journey would progress and enjoyed every single page of Jennifer's amazing and quirky story. She's a truly terrific main character and I really loved her spirit, fierceness and determination.

Angie Langley has a fabulous humoristic writing style. I often had to laugh about Jennifer's adventures. Jennifer Brown's Journey is an original feelgood story that's filled with surprising twists and turns. Wherever Jennifer goes something interesting is about to happen and Jennifer is capable of learning any type of new skill, which makes her incredibly interesting. I love it when a story has such a strong main character. Jennifer Brown's Journey put a huge smile on my face, it's such a charming, entertaining and dynamic book. I really enjoyed reading this first Jennifer Brown story and can't wait to read the next one.

If you love funny books with heartwarming main characters you should definitely read Jennifer Brown's Journey. Please keep in mind that this is the first part in a series, so the story has an open ending.

Writing Jennifer Brown’s Journey was a labour of love as most of the book is based on her true-life experiences, enhanced by a furtive imagination which takes over as humorous characters and situations are brought in to provide the chapters with the emotional balance. Many of these humorous elements are the result of everyday observations.

Jennifer Brown’s Journey is her first book, inspired by the highs and lows of a distant past that has given her the strength to tackle each day with a smile.

Hi everyone,

I’m Angie Langley, Jennifer Brown’s Journey is my debut novel.

I've always loved the idea of writing a book, but up until a few years ago, I didn’t have enough confidence in myself to even begin writing a book. My inspiration finally came when my life took rather an emotional tumble, Jennifer Brown is based on own personal experiences. I am Jennifer Brown!

From the very beginning I wanted to write a humorous book, something to make people laugh. I’ve always had a great imagination and a sense of humour, but I also wanted to include some poignancy and situations that would relate. Not having any experience of writing a novel I started by recording every humorous situation that I could think of. Trust me! there have been many! I then constructed a brief outline of what had happened to me during the past four years and the book began to take shape, a real life journey embellished with a few imaginative extensions to keep the reader continually drawn to the story line. The vicissitudes of life!

The chapters are written chronologically, but as a rule I write in whatever my current mood reflects. Humour isn't always spontaneous and often comes to me in the most bizarre places. I am that annoying women sitting in her car blocking the bus stop because she's just had a inspirational thought on the the way back from Waitrose and had to write it down straight away.

These days I’m lucky enough to live in a pretty thatched cottage on the banks on the river Avon in rural Wiltshire, a tiny piece of heaven and a writers paradise.

Currently I’m halfway through writing the sequel to Jennifer Brown’s Journey and throughly enjoying it. I must mention that my whole life is now also taken up with promoting my book which is a full time occupation being as I’m self published. I’ve quickly learnt that reviews are of the upmost importance for authors like me and I couldn’t begin the imagine how I’d succeed without the support of all the fabulous reviewers and book bloggers like the lovely Anniek and Suzie who give up so much of their personal time to help get our names out there! A huge thank you!

  7. This definitely sounds like my type of book. Love the "left for a new life" funny books. That cover reminds me of myself in a bit where I'm always off somewhere with my case, although unfortunately aren't as slim lol. Love covers like that, as they draw you in and you want to read about the journey and where the person is going.

  8. Love the sound of Jennifer journey.

  9. I'd like to follow along with Jennifer's adventures.

  10. What a lovely guest post and both Anniek and Suzie do work very hard on this wonderful blog. I love the idea of a thatched cottage and I have seen mainly beautiful ones in the south of England. In fact one of my friends used to live in one, however having heard how many spiders there are I have to decline a thatched cottage, lol. I do enjoy a good humorous book, mind I also like those that make me cry too, crying with laughter is much pleasanter though.
