With Love For Bookouture: The Betrayed by Casey Kelleher - Book Review & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Jimmy is a neighborhood celebrity because he's done so well for himself. He's making a lot of money, in legal and illegal ways. When he meets Colleen he's impressed. She isn't after his bank account and his status doesn't mean anything to her. That's why he wants to marry her and while Colleen isn't keen at first, Jimmy always gets his way. They get married and have two children, Nancy and Daniel. However, Colleen never feels at ease around her husband. Jimmy has a secret and Colleen hates him for it, but she's trapped and will have to stay with him.

Twenty years later Nancy is ready to help her father with his business. She's exactly like Jimmy and loathes her mother, because she thinks she's weak. Daniel is a little bit kinder, but Colleen isn't exactly close to either of her children. Her husband has truly broken her and she tries to forget about her traumas by drinking too much in combination with prescription drugs. Will she ever be free of Jimmy or will she be bound to him forever?

The Betrayed is an amazing gripping story. Jimmy is cold-blooded and isn't afraid to take a life. He uses and abuses people and discards them when they lose their usefulness. He's a heartless criminal and tricks Colleen into a life of misery just because it's convenient for him. Colleen used to be talented, levelheaded and sweet. Being with Jimmy has broken her spirit though and my heart ached for her. She's miserable and there's nothing she can do. There's nobody she can confide in and her life is incredibly lonely. I was hoping she'd eventually find a way out and this kept me on the edge of my seat.

Casey Kelleher writes about family, friendship and loyalty in an impressive captivating way. It was interesting to see the world through Jimmy's eyes and his awful character is perfect material for a suspenseful thriller. Some of the scenes are pretty gory and Casey Kelleher makes them come to life in a fabulous vivid way. I was fascinated by the family dynamics, the way Jimmy covers up his mistakes and the ruthless way he's doing his business. Colleen brings the right amount of softness to the story, which makes it balanced and complete. I really liked The Betrayed, it's a fantastic fast-paced story, a book to read in one sitting while biting your nails.

If you love reading a good thriller written from the point of view of the criminal you will definitely like The Betrayed.
