One Dark Lie by Clare Chase - Book Review & Giveaway

 Book review

Review by Anniek
Ruby is a writer. Lately she hasn't been happy with her books and the direction her publisher wants her to take. When Quentin Patrick-John approaches her to write a book about his sister Diana, Ruby sees this as a new opportunity to profile herself as a writer. Diana Patrick-John was a well know academic and was murdered in her home. Her murder is still unsolved. Even though her house is also the crime-scene, Ruby moves in and stays with Diana's brother, wife and daughter. What will Ruby find when she starts digging into Diana's background and life?

Nate withdrew from the outside world after his sister was killed in a housefire. Nate thought for a long time that he was the target, but now that he's found out that it was his sister they were after he's trying to get enough evidence to put the murderer behind bars. Nate is keeping his girlfriend Ruby away from his home because he doesn't want her to get hurt. He knows that Quentin Patrick-John is bad news and he's not happy with the fact that Ruby is living with him now and is writing a story about his sister. Will Ruby's job be the one thing that they can't overcome together?

Ruby is a skilled writer. She's curious and has a brilliant mind. She's very good at connecting dots and knows where to look for more information. Even though Quentin Patrick-John is an intimidating person she doesn't let him make all the rules. She knows what she's doing and she won't stop until her story is complete. Ruby is a strong and independent woman and I loved that about her.

Nate still struggles with the pain and grief of losing his sister. I understood why he made certain choices, but I wished for him to be more open with Ruby about this. Instead of growing closer to her, Nate only drifts further away from Ruby. It saddened me that Nate thinks he has to deal with his sister's murder on his own. He knows he will be in danger when trying to bring a murderer to justice, but he's willing to take that risk and I was desperately hoping for him to succeed. Nate is determined to avenge his sister's death and I admired him for that.
Ruby and Nate are already established characters and One Dark Lie isn't the first book about them. They were formed by events that happened in the past. They were introduced in the second book in The London & Cambridge Mysteries series, A Stranger's House. Because I haven't read that story it took me a little while to connect to Ruby and Nate. One Dark Lie can be read as a standalone since Clare Chase will give you enough information to understand the story, but it slowed me down a bit because I didn't know Ruby and Nate's background. That said, One Dark Lie is a phenomenal story with lots of mystery and action. Ruby and Nate both have their own gripping journey and I was thrilled to learn more about the outcome for them both. Their story is filled with suspense and unexpected surprises. I really enjoyed reading about Ruby and Nate and think they're interesting main characters I'd love to know more about.

One Dark Lie is an action-packed story filled with mysteries and mindblowing twists. To fully understand the main characters I would recommend to start with A Stranger's House.

About Clare Chase

Clare Chase writes mysteries set in London and Cambridge featuring crime-solving couples. She fell in love with the capital as a student, living in the rather cushy surroundings of Hampstead in what was then a campus college of London University. (It’s currently being turned into posh flats …)

After graduating in English Literature, she moved to Cambridge and has lived there ever since. She’s fascinated by the city’s contrasts and contradictions, which feed into her writing. She’s worked in diverse settings – from the 800-year-old University to one of the local prisons – and lived everywhere from the house of Lord to a slug-infested flat. The terrace she now occupies presents a good happy medium.

As well as writing, Clare loves family time, art and architecture, cooking, and of course, reading other people’s books.

She lives with her husband and teenage children, and currently works at the Royal Society of Chemistry.

One Dark Lie is her third novel with Choc Lit. Previous titles are You Think You Know Me and A Stranger’s House.

Once a Courtesan by Liana LeFey - Book Review

Book review
By Suze

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Jacqueline had to overcome many obstacles in her past. She was born in France and after a terrible start in London she's now leading a happier life as the headmistress of a school for girls with troubled histories. The school has rich benefactors who wish to remain anonymous. Jacqueline knows how to keep a secret and she will do anything for her girls. She offers them a safe haven and a decent education. Will is her newest teacher. He's working for the police and after a tip about Jacqueline he's trying to find out if she's the head of a human trafficking network, which is the exact opposite of what her school is all about. Who has put him on Jacqueline's trail and with what purpose?

Will is used to going undercover. He's effortlessly pretending to be the math teacher, and only man, at a school for girls. Jacqueline fascinates him and Will is instantly attracted to her. She's hiding something though and he needs to find out what it is. While Jacqueline and her school are under threat Will is falling for the headmistress. Fortunately he's at the right place at the right time, so he can help Jacqueline defend her innocent pupils. Will there be room for romance or are their lives so complicated that Will and Jacqueline don't have a chance together?

Once a Courtesan is an action-packed love story. Jacqueline is incredibly strong. She can defend herself, she's standing up for others, she's fought her way out of a bad life and she's determined to give many abused girls a good and hopeful future. I admired her courage, her fierceness and her beautiful spirit. Will is just as protective and noble as Jacqueline and they do everything they can to keep others safe. They are an amazing match, they are both brave and have wonderful personalities. I loved their deep and real connection. I'm a big fan of stories about true love and Once a Courtesan is a great one.

Liana LeFey knows how to build tension. Her story is gripping, fascinating and intriguing. She kept me on the edge of my seat from beginning to end. Once a Courtesan is a romantic adrenaline rush and I loved that combination. There are many surprising twists and turns and I found the story both thrilling and compelling. I was hooked from the start because of the intricate plot combined with a multilayered emotional background. What happened to Jacqueline moved me to tears and Liana LeFey writes about it in a sympathetic, but raw and honest way. She skillfully combines attraction with battles and does that with plenty of control and energy, which I found really fabulous. I absolutely loved Once a Courtesan and highly recommend this terrific story.

If you love action-packed historical romance you should definitely read Once a Courtesan.

Crazy for You by Rachel Lacey - Book Review, Interview, Excerpt & Giveaway

Book review
By Suze

When Emma's brother Derek passed away she lost the last relative she had. Derek made his best friend Ryan promise he would keep an eye on his sister, which means Emma is off-limits. Emma's schoolgirl crush on Ryan hasn't gone away after more than a decade, but he doesn't appear to be interested in her. Emma doesn't know that he's keeping his distance because of his promise to Derek. Ryan fancies her and wants nothing more than to get to know her better. They're friends, but he would love for them to give in to their attraction.

Ryan is a player, he rides a motorcycle and he has several tattoos. Emma is a nice girl and only dates clean-cut guys. However, she thinks she's ready for a change. They might be different on the outside, but they have a lot in common. Spending more time together as friends wouldn't harm anyone and that is what Ryan decides to do. That way he can keep her near, but they won't be able to make a mistake. Will Emma be able to use this extra time to convince Ryan to take a chance on her?

Crazy for You is an amazing romantic story about two people who have been through a lot. Emma and Ryan both lost their parents at an early age and Emma's brother passed away as well. Ryan still has a brother, but he hasn't seen him since he was little. They know what it's like to grieve and to lose everything, but they're determined to make the best of their lives, which is something I greatly admired about their characters. Emma is a sweetheart and she deserves to be with a good guy. Ryan thinks he's too much of a bad boy for her, but he's actually really kind and attentive. Ryan has never had a relationship and is determined to remain friends with Emma and nothing more, but there's so much chemistry between them that he can't stay away. I couldn't wait to find out where that would lead and read their story in one sitting. Emma and Ryan have a deep and meaningful history and there are plenty of sparks, so they'd be an ideal couple. I loved reading about both of them, they're wonderful together and it was fascinating to see them take baby steps in the right direction.

Rachel Lacey writes about a lovely small town called Haven. It's a place I immediately enjoyed reading about and her detailed and warm descriptions make it come to life very well. Crazy for You is a book about both love and friendship. Emma used to be lonely, but there are plenty of people who care about her now and that put a smile on my face. Her group of friends is close and I loved reading about every single one of them. I'm a big fan of reading stories about friends who are falling in love and Crazy for You is a great one. It's multilayered, vibrant and endearing.

If you love small town romance combined with romantic love and close friendship Crazy for You would be a great choice.

About Rachel Lacey

Rachel Lacey is a contemporary romance author and semi-reformed travel junkie. She's been climbed by a monkey on a mountain in Japan, gone scuba diving on the Great Barrier Reef, and camped out overnight in New York City for a chance to be an extra in a movie. These days, the majority of her adventures take place on the pages of the books she writes. She lives in warm and sunny North Carolina with her husband, son, and a variety of rescue pets.

1. What did you enjoy most about writing this book?

I loved writing all the fun, adventurous things Ryan and Emma did together in CRAZY FOR YOU – rock climbing, cliff jumping, motorcycle rides, etc. They were so much fun to write, and it was the perfect balance to some of the heavier themes in the book. These two characters really bring out the best in each other, constantly pushing each other out of their comfort zones.

2. If you had a theme song, what would it be?

Dream On by Aerosmith – “Dream until your dreams come true!”

3. Name one thing you won’t leave home without.

Chapstick! I have a weird obsession with it.

4. A la Twitter style, please describe your book in 140 characters or less.

Contemporary Romance Author. Wife. Mother. Animal Lover & Rescue Advocate. Hufflepuff. Powered by wine, chocolate, and books!

5. If you could have dinner with any three authors (alive or dead), who would you choose and why?

First, JK Rowling because she is a literary genius and a fierce feminist, and I’d love to chat with her about anything and everything. Next, Mary Higgins Clark because she was my very first “favorite author,” and I’d love to thank her for that. And of course Nora Roberts because she is my hero and gives great advice. All three of these ladies have inspired me so much, and I would love to just soak up all the knowledge they could impart.

6. What are your favorite types of stories to read?

My favorite books make me laugh *and* cry. I want ALL THE FEELS while I’m reading!

Whoa. Emma closed her eyes and let out a shriek as Ryan guided the motorcycle onto Main Street and picked up speed. The cold wind whipped her face, taking her breath away. Beneath her, the engine rumbled and roared like a wild thing. Holy sh*t. She was on the back of Ryan Blake’s bike, and it was amazing.

The wind bit through her thin, knit gloves, hitting her fingers with an icy blast. Actually, every part of her was freezing, but she didn’t care. She wrapped her arms more firmly around Ryan’s waist, anchoring herself to him so she didn’t tumble off the back of the bike, and somehow her hands slipped beneath his jacket. Ahh. That was better. Toasty warm, and also…her hands were on his T-shirt. Even through her gloves, she felt the hard contour of his abs, and nope, she wasn’t cold now.

And this was absolutely freaking amazing.

She hung on tight as he guided them over Haven’s twisting mountain roads, deserted at this hour. Overhead the moon shone like a beacon, illuminating the night in its soft, silvery glow. The roar of the engine and the slap of the wind against her face shocked her senses. It was thrilling, invigorating, so completely different from riding inside a car.

She’d never have done this if Mandy hadn’t dared her, and now she felt like her eyes were open for the first time in years. This was what she needed. Somewhere along the way, as she sat at the bar talking to Ryan, she’d realized she was having fun, really having fun. And she wanted more. She wanted it all, every last wild and crazy fantasy.

All too soon, her building came into view. Ryan cut the engine and guided them quietly into the driveway, coming to a stop behind her silver Toyota RAV4. He turned his head to look at her, so sexy in his helmet and riding glasses. “So how was it?”

“Even better than I thought it would be.” She gulped for air. His lips were way too close to hers, and she was still a little bit drunk on beer and a whole lot drunk on her first motorcycle ride. Mandy’s words echoed in her ears. Bonus points if you kiss him. Just stand up a bit, lean over his shoulder, and…

Emma leaned forward, her chest sliding up his back as she tipped her face to his. Holy hell, she had completely lost her mind, but she was going for it. Every nerve in her body went haywire.

Clunk. Her helmet smacked into his, drawing her up an inch short of his lips.

Hot for the Fireman by Gina L. Maxwell - Book Review & Giveaway

 Book review
By Suze

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads B&N | Kobo | iBooks

Erik suffers from PSTD. He's a war veteran who now works as a firefighter, but in order to be able to safely do his job again he needs therapy. Shortly before his first session he meets the woman of his dreams and has a hot night with her. To his surprise the woman, Olivia, is his new therapist. Erik thought he'd never see her again and even though she won't be able to treat him as a patient Erik isn't giving up on her. He wants to go on a date with her and will do everything it takes to make her like him enough to agree.

Olivia is still recovering from something heartbreaking that happened in her past. She isn't ready to date yet, but a one-night stand is a good beginning. When Erik walks into her office she's determined to turn him down, but he's persistent and eventually he manages to make her promise to go on three dates with him. Will this be enough for Erik to win her heart and does Olivia dare to let anyone come close again?

Hot for the Fireman is a funny and sexy story with quite a bit of depth. Erik has awful traumas he needs to get help for and it broke my heart to see him suffer. He's a kindhearted and loyal man. His tenacity and boldness is endearingly irritating and the way he pursues Olivia often made me laugh. Erik is perfect for Olivia, he makes her smile, he's giving her plenty of compliments and he tries to make her as happy as possible, which is incredibly sweet. Olivia has a playful side, but grieving has made her more serious. She's caring, protective and a bit stiff at first, but Erik slowly melts her heart and I liked how she comes out of her shell because of him. Olivia and Erik are perfect for each other, but Olivia needs time to get used to the idea of being with someone again. Erik deals with this in an adorable way. They have plenty of chemistry and they can't stop touching each other, but the emotional issues are making things difficult for them. I read their story in one sitting because I couldn't wait to find out if they'd both find some happiness in their future after everything they went through in the past.

Gina L. Maxwell writes in a raw and honest way, which is something I loved about Hot for the Fireman. Her main characters are fabulous and I enjoyed the vivid way she describes their personalities. She makes her story come to life really well. Even though both Erik and Olivia are both emotionally damaged, the story remains fairly lighthearted because of the way Erik talks to Olivia. It might seem crude, but the irony that's behind it makes it cute instead. Hot for the Fireman is a scorching hot story with plenty of passion and love and a wonderful healthy sense of humor.

If you like reading funny and sexy romantic stories about gorgeous men in uniform you will love Hot for the Fireman.

Meant for You by Michelle Major - Book Review

 Book Review
By Suze

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Jenny was a gullible teenager and because she was so easy to manipulate she fell pregnant. She's now a proud single mother of a great twelve-year-old. Cooper's father, however, has never been part of his life. Jenny grew up without a father herself and this made her insecure and vulnerable. Plants are Jenny's passion and she owns a nursery. Everything she earns is going towards her son and a brilliant care home for her mother. Her mother used to work for a rich family and therefore Jenny had the chance to go to a good school, but her classmates made sure she never felt she belonged. That's why when she's being goaded by one of them about a reunion she tells her that she has a fiancé, Owen, who is a billionaire with plenty of money and status. How will she convince Owen to go with her after breaking his heart several years ago?

Owen's family never appreciated him and the two women he loved left him. He is rich, drives a fast car and has a gorgeous place to live, but he doesn't have anyone to share it with. Jenny was the love of his life and when she asks Owen to play her fiancé he doesn't think it's a good idea, but he can't refuse her anything. He even buys her a ring and accompanies her to the reunion, but there's something Jenny has to do for him in return. He wants her to pretend to be his fiancée as well, for an entire week when he visits his family. Will they be able to keep their deal strictly business or are there so many feelings between them they forget their engagement isn't real?

Jenny always says what she thinks, she swears all the time and she's completely herself in every situation. I liked her immediately. She has a heart of gold and she's a wonderful mother. Owen is rich, but Jenny doesn't care much about money. She needs it to pay the bills, but she's happy when she's among her plants and doesn't need to have a fancy lifestyle. She likes Owen because of who he is, not because of what he's achieved and how much money he has, which is something I loved about Meant for You. Owen is a kind, caring and gentle man. He's a sexy nerd and always has the feeling he isn't good enough because he isn't athletic. This made me feel sad for him, because he's such an amazing person. He's sweet, generous and chivalrous and he doesn't get the appreciation he deserves. It's clear from the start that Owen and Jenny are soul mates, but Jenny is afraid he'll hurt her. I kept hoping she'd let him in and give him a chance. They have fantastic chemistry and there's a beautiful deep connection between them.

Michelle Major's writing has an easy flow and she has a great sense of humor. Jenny is funny, she usually speaks before she thinks and that lands her in the most complicated situations. She's bold and endearing at the same time and that combination of character traits managed to continuously put a big smile on my face. Owen is so adorable that he kept melting my heart. They're such fantastic main characters that I fell in love with their story from the beginning. Meant for You is a charming, cute and spellbinding romantic story and I highly recommend it.

If you love reading romantic stories about true love between incredible main characters you should definitely read Meant for You.

My Darling, My Disaster by Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan - Book Review, Interview & Excerpt

Book review
By Suze

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads Entangled

Gray has left his rakish days behind him. He hasn't been with a woman in years and he's carefully put walls around his heart. His sister Briannon has a new lady's maid, Lana, and Gray can't help himself when he's around her. He's never experienced anything like what he's feeling for her, but Lana isn't easy to conquer. She has many secrets and keeps him at a distance. Gray has something to hide as well, but nothing compared to what Lana is keeping from him and everyone else around her. Will he ever discover what's bothering the woman of his dreams and why she leaves the house by herself at night?

Lana is a Russian princess, but she's on the run. She found out she and her sister Irina were about to be murdered and they managed to escape just in time. The danger isn't over yet and that's why she sisters aren't staying together and to keep a low profile Lana is now working as Briannon's lady's maid. It's an inconspicuous position and together with an ally Lana is trying to uncover the truth and expose the people who are after her as traitors. Will she manage to do this or will they find her before she's been able to find her proof?

My Darling, My Disaster is a gripping romantic story with many intriguing twists and turns. Gray is chivalrous, passionate and impulsive. He's done some things he isn't proud of, but he's changed his ways. He's a protective man and he desperately wants to keep both Lana and his sister safe. Lana works for Briannon, but as her employer has secrets of her own and places to go to unchaperoned Lana has plenty of chances to be alone with Gray. She's fierce and regal and she isn't afraid to stand up for herself, but he's a charming man and he melts her heart. They have plenty of chemistry and even though there are many obstacles in their way, they keep finding excuses to be together. Lana and Gray can't stay away from one another and I loved their strong connection. It doesn't matter what their position is in society or if they can't tell each other the truth, their love conquers all.

Amalie Howard and Angie Morgan kept me on the edge of my seat with a complex conspiracy, plenty of surprises and fascinating secrets. I loved both the mystery aspect of the story as well as the sexy romance. Lana doesn't need sparkling gowns, beautiful jewelry and a large number of servants to be recognized as a royal, it's her presence that makes her stand out. I loved the vivid descriptions of her personality. I also liked the combination of her pride and bravery and Gray's impudent, fearless nature. Together they're explosive and that's what I enjoyed the most about My Darling, My Disaster. I really liked this action-packed, enchanting and captivating story.

If you love historical romance combined with plenty of action and interesting secrets you will love the Lords of Essex books. My Darling, My Disaster can be read as a standalone, but the timeframe of My Rogue, My Ruin is partially the same. If you want to get the complete story you should read them both.

1. Describe yourself in five words or less.
AMALIE: Creative, fun-loving, humorous, passionate, free-spirited.
ANGIE: Relaxed, creative, inquisitive, cheerful, active
2. Can you tell us a little about your book?
MY DARLING, MY DISASTER is a fun, sexy story about an arrogant young lord who meets his match in a runaway princess disguised as his sister’s lady’s maid. There’s mystery, suspense, action, and buckets of sizzling romantic tension.
3. If you had a theme song, what would it be?
AMALIE: Journey’s DON’T STOP BELIEVIN’...seriously, it’s my personal anthem. Also, BOHEMIAN RHAPSODY by Queen when I’m feeling saucy.
ANGIE: HAIR UP by Justin Timberlake from the movie TROLLS should play from magical speakers whenever I enter a room.
4. Name one thing you won’t leave home without.
AMALIE: My phone. I can work while waiting for my kids at various activities. That, and pants. I never leave home without pants. Because that would be awkward. And maybe scary for some.
ANGIE: There is NOTHING I won’t leave home without. Trust me. I’ve left home without my purse, my phone, my CHILD. Just kidding. I usually remember them all. But I do always remember to put a bra on. #goals
5. What are some books that you enjoyed recently?
AMALIE: Two recent historical romance books I really enjoyed were THE MADNESS OF LORD IAN MACKENZIE by Jennifer Ashley, and WILD WICKED SCOT by Julia London. They’re both very different, but the writing in each is sublime.
ANGIE: I loved THE ALIENIST by Caleb Carr and am so excited for the TV series starring Luke Evans coming up soon! I thought PROMISE OF FIRE by Amanda Bouchet was a really fun romantic fantasy. Right now I’m reading BARED TO YOU by Sylvia Day and I’m constantly blushing.
6. What do you like to do when you aren't writing?
AMALIE: I’m an obsessive/compulsive reader. Sometimes, on a reading binge of a particular genre, I can read a book a night for weeks at a time. I also like to watch movies. I’m a very visual person, and films are my guilty pleasure. Put it this way, I’ve already seen Beauty and the Beast twice and it only opened two days ago on Friday. I saw Deadpool at least a handful of times in the theaters and bought the Blu-Ray, and let’s not even talk about The Force Awakens. Anything Marvel can take my money. I’m super excited for Ghost in the Shell and Guardians of the Galaxy, Vol 2. #DIEHARDFANGIRL.
ANGIE: I make sure writing happens almost every day, and I’m usually working on more than one project at a time. But on my off-hours, I’m a school volunteer, a chauffeur for my daughters and their friends (unfortunately, there’s no bus transportation for our small school!), my town’s official crazy chicken lady, a freelance editor for Independent authors, a long distance runner, and -- whenever I get the chance to sit down -- an avid reader.
7. Do you have any advice to give to aspiring writers?
First of all, don’t be afraid to write what you love, and have confidence in your ideas. For any new writer, we would encourage reading as many books as you can get your hands on—the more you read (especially books that have been successful in the genre), the more you’ll understand the elements required to pen an equally successful novel of your own. Reading outside of the romance genre will broaden your scope, too. The most important piece of advice though is just to keep writing, keep trying, and keep reading.

The interior of the coach felt hot, and she could swear that Lord Northridge’s body was closer than it had been moments before. Lana’s pulse spiked, every inch of her skin prickling with bright awareness. She had been courted by suitors before and had been the recipient of hastily stolen embraces in the arbor at Volkonsky Palace. But no man had ever made her feel the way she did now—like a fox in a hunt with nowhere to run. Her short nails dug into her palms even as she feigned continued indifference. It was a talent she’d inherited from her mother: the ability to remain tranquil and unruffled in any situation.

But, lord, the man pushed her to the limits of her skill.

Despite her composed exterior, Lana was acutely conscious of him. With each inhale and exhale, she could scent the spice of his cologne and the bite of whiskey and cigar smoke, see the rise and fall of the pulse in his neck, hear the rustle of his clothing against the plush velvet seat. She could feel his hooded eyes settling upon her as if they were hands pressing against her flesh, boldly pushing past the confines of her cloak.

Undressing her.

Refusing to succumb to his debauchery, she met his eyes with cool hauteur, and they dropped provokingly to her lips. He was trying to shock her, she knew. But Lana held his stare, refusing to be cowed by whatever new perverse game he was playing. She swallowed a biting response that would remind him of his place, and hers—Lord Northridge at the best of times was unpredictable, and after a night on the town with liquor in his blood, she would do well to curb her tongue. Lest he force himself upon her like some lovelorn swain.

No, not lovelorn. Lord Northridge would not allow such a common emotion as love to rule him. The art of his seduction, if at all, would be calculated and ruthless…meant only to serve him and no other. Lovesick females fell at his feet, not the reverse. Lord Northridge’s eyes met hers as if her thoughts had grown transparent, and she flushed when another knowing smirk appeared.

Lord have mercy, he made her want to kick him. Hard.

Flustered, Lana couldn’t quite help herself as the coach finally rolled to a sharp stop in front of the manor. “Like what you see?” she asked in succinct tones.

A reluctant smile tugged at the corner of his lips at her veiled mockery. “Very much.”

Lana went still at the candid admission. He looked as surprised as she did. An arctic flush suffused her chest and climbed her neck as James opened the coach door. She slid forward, taking the footman’s hand and making her escape with every ounce of grace she could manage. “Perhaps you should endeavor to foist your attentions where they will be better welcomed. Good day, Lord Northridge.”

His husky chuckle at what would have been a crushing setdown in any other circumstance followed her all the way to the front door.

Blast the arrogant clodpole to Hades.

You May Kiss the Bride by Lisa Berne - Book Review & Giveaway

Book review

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads
Livia isn't an interesting marriage candidate because she doesn't have a dowry. Her uncle has taken her in, but isn't happy with her presence, she wears secondhand gowns and other girls in society are looking down on her. When she makes a stunning appearance at a ball Gabriel Penhallow can't help himself and kisses her. Gabriel is an eligible bachelor, a rich member of the ton. Because they are being caught he now has to do his duty and marry Livia. Livia has no say in the matter and is being sent to the Penhallow residence to live with Gabriel's grandmother, who will prepare her for a life as a high society woman.
Gabriel just wanted to kiss Livia because he was impressed by her enchanting presence and now he has to marry her. The Penhallows have enough money, so it is of no consequence that she doesn't have a dowry. However, Gabriel finds the situation infuriating and doesn't want to have anything to do with Livia. He will do his duty, but he doesn't have to like it. Will he eventually start to appreciate Livia or is their marriage doomed before it has even officially started?
You May Kiss the Bride is a fun romantic story. I immediately loved Livia. She has a good heart and she isn't afraid to speak her mind. I liked that she's both fiery and caring, which is a great combination. She doesn't entirely belong in the world she has now unwillingly entered, but she tries to make the best of it and I admired her spirit and determination. Gabriel is a difficult man to live with because he doesn't show his feelings and he hides behind a cold mask. His cool façade is mostly an act, he's actually a kind man with a gentle nature, but he doesn't let anyone come close. There's so much chemistry between him and Livia that he can't stay away from her. I loved their abundance of sparks and couldn't turn the pages fast enough to see if they would have a happy ending.
Lisa Berne writes about splendor and status in an original way. I loved her vibrant descriptions of both the good and the bad sides of high society. Livia has a lot to learn and step by step every important element of her new world is being explained, which is an angle I liked very much. The dialogue is amazing as well, I especially loved the bold way Livia talks to Gabriel's grandmother and their interaction is quite amusing. You May Kiss the Bride has plenty of enjoyable elements and it's entertaining, energetic and sexy. It's a fabulous dreamy story.

You May Kiss the Bride would be a very good choice for readers who love historical romance with gorgeous unique main characters and clever dialogue.

With Love For Romantic Books: His Forbidden Debutante by Anabelle Bryant - Book Review, Interview & Giveaway

Review by Suze

Lavinia can dance again. While nobody was sure she'd be able to walk after the horrible accident that killed her parents, she managed to heal because of sheer determination. She has a passion for shoes and is proud she can walk on them. Many secret visits to her favorite shop are being made to find the most beautiful pairs. Lavinia's feet deserve to be spoiled after everything she's been through. Lavinia had a pen friend who sent her the most wonderful letters and she had high hopes to marry him one day, but because of her accident they lost touch. She doesn't know where he is now, but Randolph has a special place in her heart and no other man will make her feel the same.

Randolph thinks he's found the ideal woman to fulfill his duty as an Earl. He has to make sure there's an heir and Claire seems to be perfectly agreeable. He doesn't love her and they aren't friends, but she should be able to give him what he needs. However, that's not at all what he wants. Randolph fell in love with the woman who was writing him warmhearted and open letters for years. He never managed to meet her in person and as duty calls he's trying to move on. When he sees Lavinia for the first time he knows he's made the wrong decision, but he's already betrothed. Is there still a chance for him and Lavinia or is it too late?

His Forbidden Debutante is a great romantic story. Lavinia is smart, outspoken and honest. She has a fabulous passion for shoes and I enjoyed reading about her new purchases very much. After a difficult past she deserves a happy future, but the man she desperately wants to marry is engaged to someone else. She doesn't despair though and I loved her strength. Randolph is a kind man and he's perfect for her. He's exactly the type of person she should be with. They're both passionate and caring and they do things because they feel right instead of just appropriate. They have amazing chemistry and their letters have brought them a precious solid friendship. I loved that combination of deep love and they clearly are each other's soul mates, which is one of my favorite topics to read about.

Anabelle Bryant writes about a dazzling world filled with stunning dresses, gorgeous shoes, balls and priceless jewelry. Her story is a combination of impressive true love and a thrilling mystery. I couldn't turn the pages fast enough to find out what would happen to Lavinia and Randolph and if they would get their happy ending or not. His Forbidden Debutante is a captivating story from beginning to end. I absolutely loved the main characters, the fascinating intrigues and the sparkling descriptions. Anabelle Bryant has written a terrific charming, entertaining and sexy book.

If you love reading about gorgeous nobility, beautiful dresses and society intrigues His Forbidden Debutante is a great choice. It's the fourth part of the Regency Charms series, but can easily be read as a standalone.
About Anabelle Bryant

Anabelle began reading at age three and never stopped. Her passion for reading soon turned into a passion for writing and an author was born. Happy to grab a suitcase if it ensures a new adventure, Anabelle finds endless inspiration in travel, especially imaginary jaunts into Regency England, a far cry from her home in New Jersey. Instead, her clever characters live out her daydreams because really, who wouldn't want to dance with a handsome duke or kiss a wicked earl?

Though teaching keeps her grounded, photography, running and writing, counterbalance her wanderlust. Often found with her nose in a book, Anabelle earned her Master's Degree and is completing her Doctorate Degree in education. Thrilled to be an author for Harlequin's Carina line, Anabelle's historical romances are character driven. She strives to provide a heartfelt connection between her hero, heroine, and the reader, believing the emotional journey on the path to true love is the most important bond. Clever secondary characters and lively conversation keep the pages turning.

Anabelle knows sometimes life doesn't provide a happily ever after, but her novels always do. She enjoys talking with her fans. Follow her on Facebook and join her mailing list for the latest news concerning her upcoming novels.

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

I’m an elementary teacher who always dreamed of writing historical romance and now is living that dream. Did I mention it took over a decade to reach publication? Aside from writing and teaching, I love taking photos and scrapbooking my travels. I’m lucky to have visited many countries around the globe and while I enjoy living in New Jersey, am ready at the drop of a word to plan a new adventure.

2. What makes your heart beat faster?

There’s so many good answers to this question. A good run – a must-have pair of shoes – my work in progress and its dark hero – romantic kisses - too much caffeine!

3. If you could create the perfect romantic day what would it look like?

Oddly, I’m not all about the stereotypical “romance” scene. Give me comfy clothes, a fire and good conversation and you’ve nailed it. I don’t need flowers, candlelight and soft music. I’d much rather talk and laugh. Make me laugh and you’ve won.

4. Who are your favorite romantic couple?

Aside from Max and Vivienne in my new novel, (Max is very sexy), I would have to say in the celebrity world – John Legend and Chrissy Teigen win. When he looks at her, adoration shows in his eyes. In the book world, I’ve loved so many of Lisa Kleypas’ couples, I couldn’t list them all.

5. Could you describe what romance means to you?

Smart, witty, considerate and sexy – those four components make the perfect male.

6. Do you find it difficult to write about romance?

No. I’ve always had a very active imagination and devoured romance novels for years! I love writing romance.

7. What kind of music do you like to listen to when you're in a romantic mood?

I love to dance, so even though it’s not the most romantic type of music, having fun and dancing is part of setting the mood. When I write I like fast music too.

8. Which country personifies romance for you and why?

Even though I write about the Regency era in England, I love France. Paris is the most romantic city I’ve visited and aside from the wonderful history, art, fashion and food, the idea of falling in love in Paris is romantic by itself.

9. What can we expect from you in the future?

Den of Iniquity released in January and is book 1 in my new series, Bastards of London. The next three books come out through 2017 with Into the Hall of Vice (book 2) coming out in April. I also have a massmarket paperback series coming out with Kensington Publishers in 2018 – so I’m very busy and I couldn’t be happier!

With Love For Romantic Books - Broken Pieces & Pieced Together by Kelly Moore - Book Review & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Anniek

Brogan has been traumatized in her past. Since that time she hasn’t let anybody come close to her, except her best friend and her brother. She lives in a small town and just keeps to herself. One night she goes to a town celebration and there she meets Kyren. He’s everything she wants in a man, but Brogan isn’t looking for a relationship. She doesn’t believe in love anymore, but she can’t deny the way he makes her feel. Will Kyren be the one who restores her trust in love?

Kyren is a yacht builder and he worked incredibly hard to get where he is today. He is mesmerized when he sees Brogan. He knows immediately that she is someone he wants to get close to. Their meeting ends with him crumpled on the floor and Brogan running for the hills. A small town has its advantages and he finds her again in no time.  Kyren and Brogan can’t deny their attraction to one another, but when they grow closer together old demons resurface. Both of them have their own hurt and guilt to work through, but will they manage to deal with it together?

Brogan sees herself as broken because of the violence in her past. I see her as a strong person who has fought her way through life. She’s tough as nails and therefore it took me a little while to warm up to her. In the beginning I didn’t understand her actions and where she was coming from. When I learned about how she became this way my heart broke for her. Brogan is surviving. She doesn't trust easily, but will do so with all her heart once someone gets past her walls.

Kyren is an ex-military alpha man who has gotten his own share of trauma. It's obvious that he cares about Brogan and he's so sweet to her. I loved that about him. He takes his time to help Brogan trust again. I liked Kyren from the beginning. He’s a wealthy self-made man who doesn’t look down on people and treats everyone with respect.

In Broken Pieces Kelly Moore writes about how Brogan and Kyren got their scars. You really get to know the characters and it's easy to connect with them. I could actually feel their pain and sorrow. Brogan and Kyren’s connection is really beautiful. There is plenty of darkness in their pasts, which left them both traumatized. Kelly Moore writes about them with a lot of respect and dignity and I liked her sensitivity. I was hooked from the very first page and read Broken Pieces in one sitting.

Broken Pieces is an emotional heartbreaking story about finding the courage to trust and love again. This story does address some difficult and violent topics. Please take this in consideration before you start reading.

Review by Anniek

Kyren had to make a difficult decision. Even though he saved Brogan’s life he can’t get over the choice he made. To find peace for himself Kyren leaves Brogan at a time she needs him the most. He isolates himself on his yacht and drowns his sorrows in alcohol. Kyren never got over the love he felt for Brogan, but hasn't been able to forgive himself for what happened. When fate leads him back to her will it be possible to win her heart all over again?

Brogan is devastated when Kyren breaks up with her. He’s the only one she has ever fully loved and is sure that she’ll never find a love like this again. She moves to a secluded island in Maine to rebuild her life. She starts her own practice and slowly accepts the way her life is now. Brogan has a big secret which Kyren knows nothing about. When Kyren shows up on her doorstep, determined to be a part of her life again, Brogan has no choice but to tell the truth. Will Kyren finally be the man she needs him to be?

Pieced Together tells the story of Kyren and Brogan three years after Kyren's heartbreaking decision. A lot has happened in the meantime, but the chemistry between them has never changed. They have their own way of dealing with the devastating events that caused them to break up. Kyren and Brogan have both been on a journey, which has made them stronger people. I loved to read about how love heals them both.

Pieced Together is a story about all-consuming love and it has fierce main characters. Kelly Moore is one of my favorite writers. Ever since I started the Broken Pieces series I’ve been hooked. I fell in love with Kyren and Brogan in the first book and my love for them grew even stronger in Pieced Together. They have such an amazing connection. Kelly Moore is an experienced and skillful writer and she has written another brilliant story that I highly recommend.

Pieced Together is the second book in the Broken Pieces series. In order to fully understand the story I recommend to read the stories in chronological order.
