Back in the Rancher's Arms by Elsie Davis - Book Review, Guest Post & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Dylan loves Kayla with all his heart. They were teenage sweethearts and Dylan knew Kayla would have stayed at the family farm for him if they'd have stayed together. He let her go, so she could spread her wings and become a veterinarian. This caused a lot of hurt between them, but making sure Kayla would spend her time doing what she loves was his main goal. He never expected Kayla to stay away from home completely because of him. She's the maid of honor at her cousin's wedding, which means she's finally back with her parents for a while. Will Dylan have the chance to rekindle their spark?

It took Kayla a long time to pick up the pieces after Dylan destroyed the beautiful thing they had. She isn't ready to spend time with him, but doesn't want to spoil the wedding, so she'll do whatever it takes to keep a good atmosphere. Kayla didn't know Dylan and her parents started working closely together, so it's a big surprise when she finds him on their property every day. Dylan doesn't want to let her go a second time, but she isn't ready to forgive and forget and might never be. Can he convince Kayla he is the one for her?

Back in the Rancher's Arms is a heartwarming romantic story. Kayla is kind, smart and sensitive. She has a big heart and will do anything for the people she cares about. She has no idea what's going on between Dylan and her parents, she's been kept out of the loop for years and this initially suited her, but not anymore. Her plan is to become a city vet, but there are many people who love her enough to try and convince her to stay in her hometown once more. Dylan is one of her fans and I was curious to find out what happened between them to make Kayla so reluctant to let him back in. I kept hoping he'd find a way to break down her walls and couldn't read their story quickly enough to see if they'd manage to make things right again.

Elsie Davis has written a beautiful story about true love. I enjoyed her fantastic setting. Her vivid descriptions of the countryside are amazing. I could easily picture the farms, the animals and the work that needs to be done. I loved reading about the ranches and instantly fell in love with them. Elsie Davis combines gorgeous surroundings with an interesting love story filled with secrets of the past, misunderstandings and old wounds. I liked the balance between sadness and light, it's exactly right. Back in the Rancher's Arms is a wonderful mesmerizing story that I highly recommend.

Advice

If you love countryside romance you don't want to miss Back in the Rancher's Arms.

About Elsie Davis

Elsie Davis discovered the world of Happily-Ever-After romance at the age of twelve when she began avidly reading Barbara Cartland, the Queen of Romance, and has been hooked ever since. After building her dream log home on top of a small mountain, she turned her attention to do what she loves most, writing.

An award-winning author and active member of RWA, she writes contemporary romance and romantic suspense. She writes from her heart, hoping to share a little love in a big world. She will never forget the moment of exhilaration when she first got the email offering her a contract for publication. A moment that has repeated itself, and one that keeps her energized and moving forward.

Three daughters, four grandchildren, and her own hero husband, keep her extremely busy when she’s not glued to the keyboard.

She loves: birding, kayaking, camping, fishing, wildlife, disc golf and nature walks. Basically, all things outdoors, EXCEPT cold weather. Her and her husband are avid Caribbean cruisers, but Elsie’s favorite vacation was their cruise to Alaska. (In spite of the cold!)

Indoors, she enjoys a toasty fire, a glass of red wine, and of course, a great romance with a guaranteed Happily-Ever-After.

A Little Cowboy Love Please
Guest post by Elsie Davis

Thanks for having me on your blog!

One of things I’m always asked is how I came up with the idea for Back in the Rancher’s Arms. So, here’s the lowdown: I love to read and write about cowboys.

I spent my mid to late twenties and early thirties on the California/Nevada border, between South Lake Tahoe and Carson City. Free time involved rodeos and line dancing, and of course I had a truck. I wore my cowgirl hat (have three), boots (have five pair) and many outfits proudly. I still have a lot of stuff some twenty-three years later, but I can’t bear to part with them.

Cowboys have something special, something that makes me stop and watch. A fascination I’ve never understood and gave up trying at some point. So here I am pondering one of the great mysteries in life: the allure of the cowboy. Maybe it’s the tight-fitting blue jeans slung low and a well-worn pair of cowboy boots. Or maybe it’s the way they wear their cowboy hat. Or their pickup truck. Or their charm and attitude. Or maybe it’s all these things.

Call me old-fashioned, but I love it when a man tips his hat and says hello. Or when he invites you up into his truck with bench seats and wants you to slide in close. Whatever it is, they are a unique breed of male destined to win the hearts of ladies everywhere.

Back in the Rancher’s Arms is a story that combines my love for cowboys and my fascination with first love. A woman’s first love usually holds a special place in her heart and even though life moves on, there are those moments that you (or at least I) stop and wonder about the person. Whatever became of so and so? And I’ve always wondered how many people never get over there first love and eventually find their way back to each other? I love second-chance romances and Back in the Rancher’s Arms allowed me to write a Happily-Ever-After story for a first love reunited against all odds and a small town in Texas was the perfect place to make it happen.

Who knows, maybe my fascination with cowboys has continued simply because I have my own hero husband, who when he puts on his cowboy boots, hat, and jeans, I fall in love with all over again. Then of course, he was wearing a long, black tux, cowboy boots and a hat when he married me twenty-two years ago.

  1. I have yet to read any Barbara Cartland, but happily-ever-after sounds good! I'd prefer a cheery romance to something dark!

    1. Me two, three, and four! Barbara Cartland was back in the day when they had virgin heroines and a lot of aristocrats. We've evolved quite a bit since then. Haha!

    1. Thank you! I hope you enjoy my story if you read it. This one will always hold a special place in my heart. But then again all book babies probably do. LOL but after writing the story I now know that I have chosen to streamline myself as a sweet, heartwarming style romance writer.

    1. Say that. My philosophy is to share a little love In A Great Big World, because the one thing the world needs is more love. Everyone needs the opportunity to escape into a world of Happily Ever After.

    1. Haha! Fun to watch and fun to look at. I've never forgotten a birthday card I got once with the cowboy leaning up against a fence with just blue jeans and a hat and boots. He was facing the opposite direction but he had a cute butt! I called him Jake and kept the card. LOL
