Ethan's Daughter by Rachel Brimble - Book Review, Guest Post & Giveaway

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Daisy is Ethan's main priority. Ethan is a single dad and being there for his daughter is incredibly important to him. He doesn't leave much room in his life for anything else. He's a successful writer and a good dad, but he hasn't got any friends and dating is something he won't even consider. That changes when he meets Leah. She's a committed nurse and immediately helps when Ethan needs someone to take care of him. Ethan likes this new development in his life, but should he let her come close when he's dealing with many insecurities and can't offer her a safe future?

After many years of silence Daisy's mother is back in Ethan's life and because of the people she surrounds herself with, this brings a lot of unrest. Ethan does everything in his power to keep Daisy out of harm's way, but trouble keeps finding him. By spending time with Leah he puts her at risk too. Leah can take care of herself, but Ethan can't bear the thought of anything happening to her, so he tries to push her away. However, this proves to be a difficult task. Will their circumstances eventually improve, so they could have a proper chance together?

Ethan's Daughter is a gripping romantic story. Leah is a wonderful woman. She's smart, kindhearted, fierce and brave. I liked that she stands up for what she believes in and is always honest about her feelings. She's great with Daisy and their connection constantly made me smile. Leah is perfect for Ethan, she understands him on a deep emotional level and there are plenty of sparks. They aren't looking for love, but when it finds them it comes with a lot of problems, which makes it hard for them to focus on what's developing between them. I loved how their main objective is to protect Daisy as well as they possibly can, they constantly put others before themselves and are both sweet and heartwarming people. They are amazing main characters and I found their story a true joy to read.

Rachel Brimble mixes finding precious love with suspense in a great captivating way. She describes the awful dangerous situation Ethan's ex manages to land him in a fantastic open manner. I loved the combination of skillfully divided tension, unexpected twists and turns and empathy. Ethan's Daughter is a terrific story filled with beautiful unconditional love, small town charm and interesting dilemmas. I really enjoyed reading this amazing enthralling book.

If you love gripping romantic stories Ethan's Daughter is an absolute must-read. It's the seventh book in the Templeton Cove series, all books I highly recommend, and can easily be read as a standalone.

Why I write romantic suspense
Guest post by Rachel Brimble

Ethan’s Daughter is book seven in my Harlequin Templeton Cove series (all books can be read stand alone) and the fifth romantic suspense story in the series (the others are mainstream romance). I love the sub-genre and will most likely to continue to write romantic suspense for a long time to come.

I discovered romantic suspense when I discovered Nora Roberts – my ultimate romance writing heroine. A writer I admire not just for her ability to write fantastic character-driven books at a phenomenal rate, but also because she started out writing around her young children as I did and never stopped.

After reading Nora’s books for well over ten years now, I still study them as I’m reading, trying to learn more and more from the writer I consider a master of the sub-genre.

Romantic suspense affords a freedom to the author that isn’t found in every sub-genre of romance. When I’m writing romantic suspense, I can include themes and subjects such as abduction, attempted murder/murder, domestic abuse, stalking…and as much as these crimes are horrible in real-life, in fiction, they allow me to vent, to rage against the villain and watch him or her get the ending they deserve.

The crime element provides a tension that can permeate throughout the book, just lingering beneath the surface as the hero and heroine begin their journey, as they fall in love and as they finally achieve their happy ever after.

Ethan’s Daughter revolves around reclusive novelist, Ethan James, and his young daughter, Daisy. When Ethan’s ex-wife turns up unannounced after a long absence and brandishing a knife, Ethan embarks on a dangerous path of trying to help his ex while keeping Daisy safe. Along comes the heroine, feisty ER nurse, Leah Dixon. Whether Ethan wants her help or not, Leah becomes embroiled in this man’s life and, in turn, comes to want to do anything to protect Daisy…even as she falls in love with her father.

It is a story of suspense, but also of family, love and hoping for a future where children can feel happy and stable, regardless of their parents going separate ways.

The mix of emotions in romantic suspense is vast and, for me, the perfect blend of what a romance writer needs to write a good story – after all, emotion is key and it should run through every page. You cannot fail to find that between the covers of a well-written romantic suspense!

Happy Reading!
