Review by Suze

Harper is very happy at Silver Hill Farm. She runs a tearoom and a petting zoo and her best friend Pip is there to help with the work. Harper is engaged to Shay, a handsome man who helps her with the development of the property. When Shay finds a box containing antique jewelry while digging, their lives will change forever. Harper assumes the jewelry belongs to someone and she dutifully reports it. Because of this Finds Liaison Officer Cesca starts looking into the case. Shay is sure they're going to get a lot of money for it, but is this really going to happen? Would it be right if Harper would receive money for something that isn't hers?

Nextdoor neighbor Will lives in Silver Hill House, a dilapidated mansion in desperate need of funds. He claims the jewelry used to belong to his family, but can he present any proof? Anyone is welcome in Harper's tearooms and her kindness might make a huge difference in her grumpy neighbor's life. Cesca is still looking into the matter and has enlisted the help of a Norwegian author. Will they be able to find out the truth when they all work together? Shay isn't interested in anything but the reward and Harper is too preoccupied to see what he's doing behind her back. Allie is lonely and Shay knows exactly how to use that knowledge to his advantage. Will the discovery of the beautiful jewelry be the end of Harper's happiness and will Harper be heartbroken or is it the beginning of something better?

The Summer of Secrets is a fabulous heartwarming story. Harper is easy to love. She's cheerful, kindhearted and friendly to everyone. She cares about people so much that it sometimes makes her a little naive, but her beautiful personality is a real treat. She has a gorgeous close friendship with Pip that constantly made me smile. I loved the easy way they talk to each other and their ability to be open and honest without being hurtful. For me this was one of the most amazing parts of the book.

Cesca is an intelligent woman. She knows everything there is to know about history and it was interesting to read about her research. She starts a thorough search and does anything she can to find information. Her heart was shattered, but by helping to uncover the truth she slowly starts to heal. I enjoyed reading about both her job and private life, which are marvellously intertwined. She never gives up and I loved that she forms easy friendships with the people she's working with. It gives the book a great enthusiastic feelgood factor that I liked a lot.

Allie and her husband are struggling and she doesn't know how to solve their problems. She lives in a village where she doesn't know anybody and her husband is away from home most of the time, so she's usually by herself. A little bit of positive attention is enough for her to make a couple of grave mistakes that she can't undo. My heart ached for her and everything she has to go through. I kept hoping someone would treat her better and give her some much needed real attention. This kept me glued to the pages.

Tilly Tennant has a warm and welcoming writing style. I love the way she describes her settings. She makes them come to life in a wonderful detailed way. I also liked the way she alternates between main characters. Each of them is equally interesting and I love how the stories all come together in the end. Tilly Tennant has written such a great charming book. The Summer of Secrets is filled with intriguing twists and turns, fantastic romance and lovely entertainment that put a big smile on my face.

If you love romantic stories set in small towns with strong female main characters you will definitely like The Summer of Secrets.

About Tilly Tennant

Tilly Tennant was born in Dorset, the oldest of four children, but now lives in Staffordshire with a family of her own. After years of dismal and disastrous jobs, including paper plate stacking, shop girl, newspaper promotions and waitressing (she never could carry a bowl of soup without spilling a bit), she decided to indulge her passion for the written word by embarking on a degree in English and creative writing, graduating in 2009 with first class honours. She wrote her first novel in 2007 during her first summer break at university and has not stopped writing since. She also works as a freelance fiction editor, and considers herself very lucky that this enables her to read many wonderful books before the rest of the world gets them.

Tilly is represented by the lovely Philippa Milnes-Smith at LAW.
