  6. My Mom surprised me with a trip to New York when I got 16 ... I was over the moon as this was (and is) such a cool place to visit and I've never even been overseas before at the time. Also, since that time we're the bestest travel buddies which makes our first trip as mother-daughter duo even more special.

  7. It's hard to pick one. I think the day I met my first husband must be the best surprise. When I was at school I never imagined I'd get married, didn't think anyone would ever like me enough. So with hindsight, that meeting must be my best surprise, it changed my life .....

  18. Gosh, that's a hard one as I don't like surprises! The only thing that comes close is hearing from a work colleague that she knew I was back at work (I'd been off for 11 months after an accident) as she could hear the class laughing and having fun! It was such a lovely compliment & I've never forgotten it.

  20. I'm another who doesn't really like surprises. However my kids did surprise me by clubbing together (there's 7 of them, lol) to get me a GPS Navigation System. I did have a worldwide TomTom unfortunately they didn't seem to like me and refused to do the lifelong updates that had been paid for. Naturally I'd never get another TomTom. I am one of those people who has absolutely no sense of direction so I do need a Garmin and it helps me enormously.

  56. We chose not to find out the sex of our children before they were born. There's nothing like that moment of the doctor saying "it's a girl" / "it's a boy", and that was the best surprise ever, first with my daughter because I'd hoped for a little girl but figured our families both run to boys, and then with my son because one of each is perfect for me but I hadn't dared to hope that would happen.

  77. Well it won't be that good for others, but it was a massive surprise for me. I've always wanted my own horse for years and had helped out at a riding school on a Friday afternoon for a few months for free, although I did get a free lesson when I stopped completely stopped going. My parents said that I could have a horse on loan for the winter, from the riding stables I went to for riding holidays, and if I coped over the winter, I could look for mine own. Of course I wanted to get my favourite from the holiday stables but when we rang to book my holiday and ask if I could take one home for the winter, they told me yes I could but it might not be Sunny (my favourite) as he had gone out on loan for the summer. Naturally I was very disappointed and said if I couldn't have Sunny I didn't want one (being a bit of a brat). My parents persuaded me to book my holiday and said you never know which one horses Carol might have. So we went and Carol asked my parents if they wanted a drink and told me to go and see the horses that were in the yard and see who I liked the look of. When I went Sunny had his head over the first door! :) So of course I was very very happy. As it was my birthday the day my holiday finished and it was near the holiday season, my parents arranged for me to take Sunny home when I came home, rather than come and collect him a few weeks later. We had a great fortnight and the day we were coming home, I was told that Sunny wasn't coming home for the winter, he was coming home for good and my parents had bought him BEFORE they went home 2 weeks ago - I did wonder why he hadn't been used for the rides while I was there as he was a popular horse to take out lol.
