Steel Hawk Security: To Love a Thief by Jane Beckenham, Heart of Steel by Eve Devon & Dangerous Illusions by Sarah Ballance - Book Reviews & Giveaway

It's 1851 and Rose Valetta wants to be independent. She doesn't think she should rely on a husband for her income and safety. She and her father are close and her father has taught his daughter the family trade, jewelry making. They're good at reproducing stones and that is what gets Rose's father in trouble. Someone kidnaps him, to force him to copy the Pasha Star, the country Zarrenburg's most precious diamond. Someone wants to steal the original and Rose needs to find out who, to rescue her father and prevent the precious stone from ending up in the wrong hands.

Nathan Hawk used to be a famous thief, but after learning a trade and fleeing to America he's now an honest man, back in his hometown to promote his latest invention, a lock that can't be broken. The lock is supposed to protect the Pasha Star, but someone has already switched it for a fake. Nathan and Rose have a common goal, to find Rose's father and the stone. They used to know each other, Nathan and Rose worked together when Nathan was her father's apprentice and when he left he broke her heart. Will they be able to set their differences aside, so they can discover who is behind the abduction and the theft and prevent disaster from happening?

To Love a Thief is a wonderful romantic story. Rose is a strong woman. She's smart, talented and determined. She doesn't worry about her own safety when it comes to uncovering the truth about her father's disappearance. I was immediately captivated by her strong personality. Nathan and Rose are a good match. Rose doesn't let him get away with anything and they have an easy and heartwarming friendship. I loved reading about these two beautiful people and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to see if they'd manage to solve their problems and get a second chance together.

Jane Beckenham combines romance with an action-packed story. Rose and Nathan have a dangerous mission. Someone's chasing them and they have to find out why to save Rose's father, the Pasha Star and themselves. I was intrigued by the mystery and loved Zarrenburg as a fabulous fictional kingdom. I was spellbound by this entertaining, captivating and charming first Steel Hawk story and really enjoyed reading it.

Adam Steel has a problem, his company Steel Hawk is going through a difficult phase. He's lost two contracts to the competition, something that shouldn't have happened as his designs are originals and the best companies can buy. Also, a book has been published about his ancestor Nathan Hawk and what's being described isn't positive. In this book Adam's assistant Honeysuckle Hawk isn't being spared either. Because of something that happened in her past she's now a target for the press. Adam isn't happy with this information, as he likes Honeysuckle a lot. Instead of firing her he decides it's better that Steel Hawk shows the world a united front and he even gives Honeysuckle a promotion, but that doesn't mean he trusts her.

Adam is responsible for the security of the Pasha Star. His company has done business with the royalties of Zarrenburg for many years and they have a firm connection. After many years the Pasha Star will finally be on display again. Unfortunately the diamond isn't safe, somebody wants to steal it and Adam has to find out who's behind it before more damage can be done. What is Honeysuckle's role in the matter, should he follow his heart or should he be wary of her? Can Adam catch the person who tries to undermine his business and destroy his reputation?

Heart of Steel is a sweet romantic story. Adam is a kindhearted man. He's a gifted inventor who's locked his heart safely away. He can't resist Honeysuckle though. His assistant is creative, sympathetic and attractive and he wants to get to know her better. Honeysuckle is secretly in love with Adam as well, but they have a lot going against them. I was curious to find out the exact details of the plan that's clearly been set up to ruin them and this kept me on the edge of my seat. I kept hoping they'd get their happily ever after as it's obvious straight away that they are soul mates.

Eve Devon's vivid descriptions of Steel Hawk are making the company come to life in an incredible way. I was intrigued by Adam's work and his determination to make a success of the company that's been in his family for generations. The story is set in the company itself and in Zarrenburg, which is a fascinating fictional country to read about. It was fun to find out more about it and I enjoyed every single scene, especially the ones about the glamour of life as a royal. Eve Devon combines a true love story with action and mystery in a wonderful way. I was enchanted from beginning to end.

Edward Long is Steel Hawk's company lawyer. His behavior has always been impeccable, but recently weird things started happening to the company and he's a suspect. He knows he's innocent, but others aren't convinced of this fact. Someone is using him to undermine the business he loves working for and this person is clearly having success. His boss sends someone to investigate the matter. Sophie Hawk will get to the bottom of the case and it's up to her to determine if Edward is guilty or not. This infuriates Edward, but he can only cooperate and hope for the best.

Sophie doesn't use her real last name, so her connection to the company isn't obvious. She's a PI with an excellent track record and finding out who's trying to bring Steel Hawk down is exactly the kind of job she excels at. When she meets Edward she has a gut feeling he's innocent, but there's so much proof that indicates otherwise. To make matters more complicated there's plenty of attraction between them. Can Sophie trust herself and listen to her intuition and is Edward really innocent? Will she be able to find out what's going on with Steel Hawk and prevent more damage from happening?

Dangerous Illusions is a fascinating romantic story. Sophie is a clever, capable and skillful woman. She can stand up for herself and she's really good at her job. I was curious to find out what she'd discover and Steel Hawk's mysteries kept me glued to the pages. Edward isn't the most warm and welcoming person, but slowly she manages to defrost him. I was intrigued by his complex personality and loved his moody charm. They are giving each other a good challenge and that immediately captivated me.

Sarah Ballance writing style has a nice easy flow, which made it possible for me to completely lose myself in her story. I loved her descriptions of Steel Hawk's hidden rooms and very much enjoyed finding clues together with Sophie and Edward. Dangerous Illusions is a gripping story filled with family secrets, old feuds and mysterious people. The many surprising twists and turns are making this story a joy to read and the ending is absolutely wonderful. Sarah Ballance has written a fantastic Steel Hawk finale.
