Interview - Get To Know Anniek and Suze & Giveaway

Suze and Anniek both love to do author interviews. It's wonderful to read the information they've made available on their website and then think of the amazing things we can ask them. We also like to come up with more detailed questions that are related to their stories. As we love to get to know the authors we feature better, we thought it would also be nice for our readers to get to know us a little better, so this time Anniek and Suze will be answering the questions. Plus you have the chance to ask us something and we'll answer those questions in our next interview post.

The questions we've chosen to start with are all from previous interviews.

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Anniek: I live in The Netherlands with my husband, our two beautiful kids and a Labrador dog. My son, Finn, is 4 years old and has just started school and my daughter, Emma, is 14 months old and she's the firecracker in our household. My life is pretty busy. I work part time as a personal advisor at a bank. In my free time I love to be with my family, read loads of books, which I review on our blog, and watch TV-series.

Suze: I live in a coastal town in The Netherlands, together with my husband. I'm married to my high school sweetheart. I think I love romantic stories so much because I met my own soul mate at a young age and love has always been an important part of my life. I studied Literature and Marketing of Books and love anything about the publishing world. I spend most of my free time with my nose in a book and when I'm not reading I write about books, chat to authors or other readers or I'm trying to come up with my own stories. Other things I love are spending time with family and friends, fine dining, the theater and shopping.

2. What kind of books do you bring with you when you go on holiday?

Anniek: I only bring my Kindle and my iPad, which has the Kindle App and iTunes library. I read way too much to bring paperbacks with me. They would become too heavy to take with me on a plane. I love to read romantic novels preferably with a paranormal twist, horror stories and I LOVE zombie books. If I see one that captures my interest I just can't help myself and I have to read it. I always have a pile of books waiting to be read and I like to read as many as I can when we're on holiday.

Suze: I can be a bit paranoid when it comes to not having enough books to read, so I do bring paperbacks when I go on holiday. As I read more eBooks than paper books I also bring my Kindle and iPad. I have plenty of reading apps and they're all filled with amazing books, I have too many to ever finish, but there's no harm in trying. My husband reads as well, so most of our luggage consists of books. He doesn't like flying, so we usually go somewhere by car. That way we can bring a box and both read as much as we want. When I'm on holiday I read less than when I'm at home, as I also want to spend time doing other things, like taking in my surroundings, while at home I almost always have a book in my hands.

3. Could you tell us something about your hobbies, what do you do when you are not reading?

Anniek: I love watching TV-series. I follow quite a lot of them. My favorites are The Walking Dead, Fear The Walking Dead and Orange is the New Black. We have Netflix and I just can't help myself when I see new episodes or series. I watch all kinds of series and I'm trying to keep track of quite a few, like Riverdale, Suits, Ghost Adventures (not on Netflix), The Good Witch and Scream.

Suze: I love being creative and like making collages, even though lately I haven't had much time for it. I used to be an avid letter writer, but due to personal circumstances that had to be pushed back a little as well. I like going out for a good meal. I can save for months for something really special. Food can be a form of art and I love having those experiences. We're living near the dunes and going for a seaside walk is something I like doing whenever I can.

4. If you could be any main character from a best selling book, who would you be and why?

Anniek: Katniss Everdeen from The Hunger Games. She is so brave taking her little sister's place. Katniss has many skills and even though The Hunger Games are cruel she never loses her humanity. I loved this series a lot.

Suze: I'd love to be Hermione, because I like her intelligence, spunk and resourcefulness. I would also like to take a peek at Hogwarts.

5. What's your favorite reading spot?

Anniek: My favorite reading spot is my bed, especially when I can read after everyone else has fallen asleep. I love to crawl under the blankets and lose myself in a good story. When I'm reading a scary book I prefer to leave the light off just to feel the full atmosphere of the story.

Suze: My favorite reading spot is my bed as well, especially at night when it's quiet and dark.

6. What's your favorite scary movie?

Anniek: My absolute all time favorite is Night of the Living Dead. I have literally watched this movie so many times that I know the lines by heart. It's a very old movie, but it truly is a classic by the master George A. Romero.

Suze: I don't watch scary movies, I hardly watch movies at all. When I can choose between a movie or a book the book always wins.

7. Which book would you recommend to all of us?

Anniek: I have read so many books that stood out, so this will be a long answer.

- I would recommend any book by Stephen King. I'm a big fan and have every book he has ever written. The first book I ever read by Stephen King was Christine and I was hooked.

- The As The World Dies Trilogy by Rhiannon Frater. These books still haunt my mind.

- The Watchtower Knight Series by Delwyn Jenkins. This seriously is one of the most incredible series I have ever read.

Of course there are many more names of great authors that come to mind, so watch my reviews to see all of the great books I've read.

Suze: Jonathan Strange and Mr Norell by Susanna Clarke. It's my all time favorite story. It isn't an easy read, but it has so many fascinating elements. I like literature and this story is about magic, which makes me even happier. It has complex relationships, plenty of darkness, tricks and scheming, which is exactly the way I like a good story to be.

8. What's your favorite time of the year and why?

Anniek: I love Christmas! With Christmas I really want to go all out. A real tree, plenty of presents and as many lights as I can squeeze in. I just can't get enough of the warm and cozy feeling of being with my family. I love it when there's snow, but that isn't always happening. It's a rare treat to have a white Christmas where I live. I can't wait for my son to be a little older, so we can watch all of the Harry Potter movies during Christmas.

Suze: The autumn. I love it when the leaves are changing color and I really enjoy watching the beauty of it. I love being outside at this time of year, I like the food that's a part of this season and I'm a big fan of autumn holidays because they're always so cozy.

9. If you could travel anywhere in the world, for a holiday, where would you go and why?

Anniek: There are many places still on my wishlist. Jamaica has been at the top for a very long time. When I see pictures of Jamaica I get a craving to book a flight right away. America is also high on my list. I would love to rent a camper and travel down the route 66. Both of these holidays have to wait until the kids are older though.

Suze: I would love to go to Australia. I'm always mesmerized by the stories I read about it and can't wait to visit the many beautiful places this country has to offer. Plus I'd love to visit the friends I have there and see where and how they live.

10. What can we expect from you in the future?

Anniek: I love to write personal posts and it feels great to connect with the authors we feature on our website. Of course you can also expect a lot of reviews of all the gems that I'm privileged to read. If any writers read this interview, please feel free to contact me or Suze for a possible review.

Suze: Many more book reviews and interviews. I love doing them and can't imagine a life without them. I also would love to write more and eventually share my stories with the world. It's a slow process, but I'm not giving up.

  1. I know it is more practical to take a kindle or other reader on vacation or to have at home instead of tons of books, but do you prefer an actual book over s reader or vice versa?

  2. If you could actually live inside a particular book genre which one would you choose?

I wonder if Suze will go for Romance and Anniek for Horror ... then again, that genre is probably better experienced reading than actually living it. ;-)
