Book Review - A Secret Garden by Katie Fforde

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Suze

Philly lives with her grandfather and has started her own nursery. She loves spending time in the garden and she and her grandfather are having a wonderful time together. They moved from Ireland to an English farmhouse. Philly can't live from her business alone yet, so she's also helping with catering work sometimes. That's how she meets Lucien, a temperamentful and ambitious chef. Will Philly find happiness in her new home country?

Philly often helps her good friend Lorna by providing new plants and lending a hand when needed. Lorna adores working in the gardens of a big estate. She and Lady Anthea, an older woman with plenty of spirit, have always been good friends. Lorna secretly hoped she'd end up with Anthea's son, but it doesn't seem meant to be. Fortunately sculptor Jack is there to mend her broken heart. Nobody is ever too old to fall for someone. Is there love in the air for both Lorna and her good friend Anthea?

A Secret Garden is a delightful book about beautiful grand homes, unusual relationships, gorgeous plants and delicious food. I immediately loved the main characters of this book, they're strong capable women, each from a different generation. I enjoyed reading about their adventures, their hopes and dreams and their plans for the future. I equally liked Philly, Lorna and Anthea and couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out what would happen to them next.

Katie Fforde writes about the most stunning settings in a wonderful descriptive way. I loved her vibrant and colorful writing and her abrupt way of dealing with certain issues kept making me smile. A Secret Garden is an entertaining story, it's filled with charm, fabulous original connections and fascinating events. I like Katie Ffordes dazzling way of presenting solutions to any kind of problem and her story ends in a fantastic merry way. I had a great time reading this fabulous lively feelgood book.

  13. This book looks like it holds so many little elements that I love. And the title reminds me of "The Secret Garden," which I had't thought of in so many years! I adored that book when I was little. Now I have an itch to go re-read that one as well... :) Thank you for the review!
