Book Review - Wrapped in Hope by K.B. Andrews

Review by Anniek

Hope and Dean have been friends ever since they were little kids. This friendship turned into sweet teenage love. After their graduation Hope and Dean spend a weekend alone in a cabin in the woods, totally cut off from the outside world. They love every minute with each other. On the last day Dean asks Hope to marry him and she can't wait to be with him forever. On the way home a terrible accident ends their dream, leaving Hope shattered and alone. Will Hope ever be able to fully enjoy life again?

Hope is a student and has just been existing for the last 5 years. She doesn't participate in anything social, doesn't go to parties and is basically a loner. Her roommate has a troubled past as well, so she understands Hope completely and puts no pressure on Hope to get over her broken heart. Hope goes to group therapy sessions, but has never shared her story. During one of those sessions Holden walks in. Holden, Dean's stepfather, is still coping with the loss of his son. Seeing Holden stirs up feelings inside Hope that she thought she lost forever. Can Holden help Hope to get over the past?

Wrapped in Hope is a story about loss, grief and forbidden love. The story contains a few elements that are tough to read about. K.B. Andrews writes about something difficult and I admired the way she does this. She writes about a beautiful, but controversial love with such a lot of respect and dignity that I couldn't stop myself from rooting for Hope and Holden. Both of them have been through so much pain and their unconditional love is heartwarming. They help each other to overcome the greatest loss they've ever known and they each come out stronger, which is something that moved and impressed me. I absolutely loved this complex thought-provoking story.

Wrapped in Hope is a beautiful moving story with interesting main characters. The story does address some very difficult topics. Please take this in consideration before you start Wrapped in Hope.
