Kate is a veterinarian and her love for animals started when she was really young. Her grandmother's farm is filled with rescue animals and strays. Kate is especially fond of dogs and is doing whatever she can to keep them safe. She has raided plenty of puppy mills already and she tries to help as many dogs as she can.
When Kate meets state trooper Nick there's an instant connection. Nick used to be in the army and his relationship with dogs is complicated. He's a single dad and his son loves animals, but Nick can't make his biggest wish come true because of his own traumatic past. Will spending time with Kate heal some of his wounds?
Soldier's Rescue is a great romantic story. I love reading about animals, so I was instantly intrigued when I read this book. Kate is strong, smart and capable. She's also really sweet and friendly and she warms the hearts of everyone she meets. She's a wonderful main character. Nick is a bit more reserved, but he's a good man with a lot of love to give. He's a dedicated father and he's kind to both people and animals, which is something he has in common with Kate. They are perfect for each other and I couldn't wait to find out if they'd find their happily ever after.
Betina Krahn has a lovely easy flowing writing style. I liked how she combines a story about true love with the more serious topic of animals in need. The dire circumstances of the animals Kate is trying to rescue are heartbreaking. Betina Krahn writes about it in a vivid and raw way that moved me to tears. She combines this with plenty of hope and compassion, which is both compelling and impressive. I loved Soldier's Rescue, it's a terrific story.
If you're an animal lover and like romantic stories I highly recommend Soldier's Rescue.
