  3. To Kill A Mockingbird by Harper Lee. Beautifully written, with interesting, realistic and flawed characters. It is about morals, ethics, justice, truth, choice. It is about the day you realise that the world is not a kind place, that bad things happen to good people. It is a book about childhood, about life, about everything.

  10. It's my favorite book from my childhood: My Bedtime Book of Magic Carpet Stories From Many Lands (Patricia Taylor) as it made me fall in love with reading and also traveling which have been two of my passions ever since.

  15. Rendevous with Rama by Arthur C Clarke as this is a great sci fi book that sparks the imagination in a different way every time you read it. I have read it over 12 times!

  16. I have a treasured copy of Dr Seuss's book All the Places You Can Go which has farewell notes written in by my friends when I left my job as a school librarian after 9 very happy years at the school. I was leaving to follow my husband whose dream job took us overseas.

    I guess if I have to choose I'd say one of the battered old paperbacks I keep to hand for regular re-reads. Probably my HP Lovecraft anthology!

  19. That would be my mother's back-to-back copy of Little Men and Little Women. It's so old, it's falling apart. I would need to get it to the "book doctor" soon.

  21. The illustrated editions of the first two Harry Potter books. I don't mind loaning my books to friends or family but those books? nope. They stay where they are and where I can see them :)

My most treasured book is 5 Smooth stones by Ann Fairbairn...It was published when I was 15 years old and my best friends mom told me please go read this book it will change your life.....I got it, read it and it did change my life....I still have the book in my library from 1966... yellowed pages and all.... they re-issued the book at some time in the 80's or 90's and changed the cover art and that really broke my heart.. The original cover art was beautiful....

  24. My most treasured books are 4 hardcover books from the 1940's that were my mother's. They are original books of Nancy Drew Mysteries by Carolyn Keene. I found them in my closet one day and asked my mom if I could read them, and she said yes. My love for reading was born :)

  25. I cannot say what my most treasured books are. After a total house fire I was left with no books and have since been slowly replacing them. Probably the most treasure were certain children's books I read with and to my children.

  29. "What's your most treasured book and why?" I should have kept all sorts of treasured books from long-ago. I think for the rest of my life I'll probably have a handful of my own personal literary discoveries that I'll treasure, books like "Coinman" by Pawan Mishra, etc.

  35. My most treasured book is actually two. My grandmother had two beautiful illustrated hard covers of Wuthering Heights and Jane Eyre that she had when was a child. They are from the 1930's. They are in excellent condition and it was by reading those books that I was introduced to and fell in love with classic literature.

  49. My most treasured book? That's a tough one, either my very elderly copy of The Little White Horse or my out of print Where the Rainbow Ends that dates from the beginning of the 20th century. Both so precious to me.

  54. My most treasured book is Totto-chan: A girl on the window by Tetsuko Kuroyanagi. I got this book as a birthday present from my mum's friend when i was a kid. This book has encourage me to be book lover i am! I have read it more than 3 times and the older i get the more lesson i learned from this book :)

  56. The books i treasured are Pippi Langstrump, Emil from Lönneberga by Astrid Lindgren, and all travelogues by Bill Bryson. As my choices might suggest, i like books which make me laugh but actually, it's beyond that. These books have inspired me in many things and i read them over and over without feeling bored.

The very few Roald Dahl books i have left from childhood my grandparents bought me them all and signed everyone of them unfortunately a lot of them got lost when i either left mums home or when after moving in with my dad he moved i still have the odd one or two but my old fav and rather battered copy of matilda got lost! :(
