Nic's father is an important Navy admiral. Nic always wanted to be like her father and brothers and joined the Navy as well. She's trying to prove she's as capable as they are. When she gets a place as the only woman on the USS California, a submarine, she's over the moon. Before she leaves she allows herself a one night stand with a gorgeous stranger, Kyle. She's convinced she'll never see him again, however, when Nic arrives on the submarine she discovers that she's working together with Kyle. They have to spend months in close proximity to one another, will they be able to pull it off without giving in to their feelings?
Kyle and Nic become good friends and their chemistry remains. Nic is finally getting accepted by the men on the submarine, but then something awful happens and Nic might lose everything she's worked so hard for. Kyle tries to help her through this difficult time, but that could put his career in danger as well. Will they survive on a professional and personal level or is there too much going on for them to ever have a chance to be happy together?
Love Runs Deep is a fantastic romantic story. I loved reading about Nic, a courageous and strong woman in uniform. I'm a big fan of stories about men in uniform, but have discovered I like them even better when the women are just as tough. Kyle is a gentleman and he's always willing to help the people who need him. Kyle and Nic are both kindhearted people. Their chemistry is as amazing as their close friendship and I couldn't wait to find out if they'd find a way to be with each other. I like stories about true love a lot and Love Runs Deep is definitely a good one.
Gail Chianese's writing is descriptive and captivating and her main setting is brilliant and original. I loved the way she describes what life as a marine is like, what being on a submarine entails and how it feels to be the only woman in a large group of men. She kept me intrigued from beginning to end. I enjoyed reading about the profession of the main characters and it was great to find out more about their personal lives as well, I equally liked these two aspects of the story. The main characters have to face many obstacles in their way and Gail Chianese writes about difficult topics in an honest and sympathetic manner. Love Runs Deep is an incredible story with a wonderful fitting ending and plenty of surprises. I absolutely loved this terrific book.
If you love to read about strong heroines in uniform you will definitely like Love Runs Deep.
About Gail Chianese
My love of reading began at the tender age of three, where I’d make my grandpa read the Fourteen Country Rabbits over and over and over again (and correct him when he skipped parts). It was a wonderful tale and sadly is now out-of-print. (Sigh). I’m convinced he taught me to read to save his sanity, I mean so he could find time to read his own books. Ever since then my escape from life’s everyday stresses has come between the pages of a book. Growing up I devoured the complete Nancy Drew and Hardy Boys Mysteries, Little House on the Prairie and Island of the Blue Dolphins. At age fourteen, I discovered Harlequin romances and a new, favorite genre.
While I have branched out over the years reading mystery, women’s lit, urban fantasy, I always circle back to romance in the end. So, when I had “that” moment, you know the one where you go, “If I died tomorrow, could I say I was done with everything? Would I be satisfied with my accomplishments?” No flew past my lips. I most certainly had unfinished business (yes, I taunt my children with that warning, I'm going no where).
This isn’t to say I don’t have a fantastic life. I’m married to a real-life hero. No, honestly, I am. My wonderful hubby has served in the US Navy for the past 26 years. He’s done things he can’t tell me about. It’s probably best he doesn’t - I’ve seen HUNT FOR RED OCTOBER and K-19: THE WIDOWMAKER - I cringe. But, it doesn’t stop me from being extremely proud of him and the sacrifices he makes for us, his family and his country. He’s also uber-supportive of my dreams and NEVER says no to me.
I have three wonderful, loving children who make me laugh more often than not. They keep me on my toes and give me some wonderful material to play off in my stories. If that weren't enough, I'm a sucker for four-legged, furry creatures. Which is why we now have three dogs in our family.
But back to that unfinished business, what was it? What did I miss? What did I always dream of?
Writing my own stories.
And, here I am-pursuing the dream and taking the steps to make it a reality.
Thanks for stopping by and giving me a little push on the path to success.
Random Facts About Me:
I read romance because it allows me to escape life’s every day problems. I know in the end the hero and heroine will get their HEA, a few people may die in the process, but it’s the end that counts. Right?
Lindor truffles by Lindt are truly a gift from the gods.
My favorite form of exercise is dancing alone in my room so I can get as crazy and wild as I like without my family or strangers thinking I need an “I love me” jacket.
I still think my mom makes the best cookies on the planet.
And after all these years, I’m still madly in love with my husband (but shh, don’t tell him, it’s a secret).
1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
I write contemporary romance, but love to read pretty much every sub-genre. I’ve been hooked on romance since my grandpa bought me my first Harlequin when I was twelve. I’m a Navy wife and the mom of three, plus three fur-babies. In my spare time, I love to read, bake, geocache and ghost hunt. And Lindt truffles are my weakness.
2. What makes your heart beat faster?
My husband’s smile (and pictures of Hugh Jackman, but it’s okay. The hubby knows all about this.)
3. If you could create the perfect romantic day what would it look like?
A day spent with my sweetheart. We could be doing most anything like a picnic on a secluded beach, hiking in the mountains, sailing, curled up with each other on the couch reading (yep, we’re that couple that reads passages to each other), or spending the day at Disney.
4. Who are your favorite romantic couple?
Kat and Bones from Jeaniene Frost’s Night Huntress series.
5. Could you describe what romance means to you?
Romance is many things, but really for me, it boils down to love. It’s that happy, content feeling you get when you’re with the person you love. It’s them doing little things for you, with being asked, just because they thought of you. It’s putting that person first, ignoring the world and focusing on each other.
6. Do you find it difficult to write about romance?
Writing about love and romance is easy. Writing love scenes are difficult.
7. Can you tell us about your most romantic experience?
I was having a terrible day; the kind you want to build a blanket for over. When my husband came home and found out, he grabbed my hand, told the kids they were on their own (they’re teens) and kidnapped me. He made one stop and drove us to our favorite beach for a picnic dinner. He made me relax, laugh, and forget about everything except for the fact that to him, I was the world, and amazing, and perfect.
8. What kind of music do you like to listen to when you're in a romantic mood?
Love ballads from all eras and genres: Whitesnake: Is This Love, Bee Gees: How Deep is Your Love; Smokey Robinson: Being with You, Barry White: anything by him, Alabama: Feels So Right (plus, many more); Christina Perri: A Thousand Years. My taste is all over the place.
9. Which country personifies romance for you and why?
Italy. It’s a breathtaking country that knows how to slow down and take its time. Want to linger over dinner talking with your love? The Italians do not care, they will not rush you, they leave you to your food and companion. The scenery is stunning, but even more, it’s not overcrowded. Its so easy to find a garden to stroll in, a beach to watch a sunset from, and let’s not forget Gondolas! They even have a gondolier who serenades you. How could you not fall in love in Italy?
10. What can we expect from you in the future?
Right now I’m writing the third book in the Changing Tides series that focuses on real-life Navy heroes and heroines, and what life is really like for those who serve and those who love our men and women in uniform. What comes next partly depends on readers. If they love the Changing Tides series, I might stick with that for a little while; at least another book or two. Beyond that I’ve got a few ideas that are percolating, but you can be sure they will be filled with sassy women and men that will make your heart melt with their smile and charm.
