Book Review - Cowboy Sanctuary by Michelle Hughes

Danielle and Brock had a short fling, which resulted in a pregnancy. Danielle wasn't able to enjoy her son Jeremy for long, because she was killed. Danielle was married to Derrick, an evil and dangerous man. She let him believe he's Jeremy's father to ensure their safety, but she wasn't able to get away from him on time. Derrick wasn't convicted for the murder, but he's a busy criminal and he did get caught for something else. When he's behind bars for a short time he transfers Jeremy's custody to Danielle's twin sister Dana. Finally Dana has the chance to do what she thinks is right.

Dana wants Jeremy to get to know his real father and she's determined to keep him away from Derrick. That's why she visits Brock at the Dixon Ranch, to introduce them to each other. Together they're trying to figure out where Dana, who's afraid of Derrick, can go and they hope they can find a way for Jeremy to stay with Brock. They quickly develop feelings for each other, but is that wise? Will Dana have a chance with the man who was treated unfairly by her sister?

Cowboy Sanctuary is a great romantic story. Danielle and Dana might look alike, but they are very different. Danielle likes an adventure, she's outgoing and she's fierce. Dana is more reserved, she's sweet and friendly and she has a wonderful kind personality. She's already lost a lot and she doesn't want to lose Jeremy as well, but she's willing to make sacrifices for his wellbeing, which I found incredibly brave. Brock is a real cowboy and likes working outside. He's good-looking and confident and he's amazing with horses. He's also protective and when he loves someone he does this with his whole heart. Brock and Dana are perfect for each other and I couldn't turn the pages quickly enough to find out if Derrick would get his way or not, which is something I really enjoyed about Cowboy Sanctuary.

Michelle Hughes has a nice vivid writing style. I loved the setting, Dixon Ranch is a fantastic place and I could easily picture the ranch itself, the animals and the people who are living there. Michelle Hughes makes it come to life through colorful and thorough descriptions. Cowboy Sanctuary is a story about true love and falling for someone head over heels. It isn't just romantic though, because of Derrick's threats and his coldhearted personality the story is gripping as well. I liked this combination and think Cowboy Sanctuary is a wonderful book.

Advice

If you love romantic stories about cowboys, Cowboy Sanctuary would be a great choice.

  4. I'm liking the sound of this one. Not much for just romance and Derick's cruel streak appears to make this a bit of a thriller too. Plus, I do enjoy cowboys:)
