Review by Suze
Drinks are Mackenzie's passion. She works in a bar and she's incredible at what she does. Connor is one of her colleagues. He is a great chef and he's good-looking, but he's also a playboy and he never stays anywhere for a long time. Mack wants someone she can rely on, someone who will be a constant in her life. When they have the chance to open their own restaurant combined with a bar they have to learn how to work together and Connor needs to commit. Their biggest dream can come true, however, Connor and Mack don't agree on anything. Is this a recipe for disaster or can they overcome their differences? There's something between them, but if they'd give in to their feelings can they still work together?
Make Me Beg is a great sexy story. Mack and Connor have plenty of chemistry. They are completely different and they bicker quite a lot. Especially when they have to come up with a plan for their own business. They don't agree on anything. There are a lot of sparks and physically they connect, but finding a way to work together proves to be a lot more difficult. I loved how talented they both are and how well they fit together. They might be fierce people, but they're also really sweet and they're creative. There's common ground, but it takes them a while to find it and it was fascinating to read about every step they take. I was so curious to see where their relationship would lead that I read their story in one sitting.
I loved the setting of Make Me Beg. The bar and restaurant are an interesting place to read about and Rebecca Brooks writes about food and drinks in a delightful vivid way. I could practically taste everything delicious thing she describes. That made Make Me Beg a fantastic read for me. I really liked the romantic aspect of the story as well. There's so much love, attraction and passion, which is one of the biggest strengths of the story. Rebecca Brooks writes about two people who are using all of their senses, which results in several fabulous hot scenes. I enjoyed reading Make Me Beg very much, it's an amazing story with plenty of interesting layers.
Make Me Beg is the second Men of Gold Mountain book. The stories can easily be read as standalones and they are perfect for readers who love passionate stories with driven main characters.
About Rebecca Brooks
Rebecca Brooks lives in New York City in an apartment filled with books. She received a PhD in English but decided it was more fun to write books than write about them.
She has backpacked alone through India and Brazil, traveled by cargo boat down the Amazon River, climbed Mt. Kilimanjaro, explored ice caves in Peru, trekked to the source of the Ganges, and sunbathed in Burma, but she always likes coming home to a cold beer and her hot husband in the Bronx.
She likes outdoorsy guys with both muscle and heart and independent women ready to try something new.

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?
Absolutely! I’m Rebecca Brooks and I write sexy contemporary romance about dirty-talking, rugged outdoorsmen and the adventurous women they fall for. I love travel, hiking, skiing, exploring new places, and falling in love with new books!
My most recent release, MAKE ME BEG, is a smoking hot frenemies-to-lovers about a chef and a bartender who can’t agree on anything—and can’t keep their hands off each other! It’s set in the fictionalized town of Gold Mountain, Washington, and combines all of my favorite things: mountains, beautiful scenery, food, fancy cocktails, cake, badass women, and hot shirtless men.
2. Your apartment is filled with books. Who are your favorite authors?
I have a ton of books in all different genres—fiction, poetry, philosophy, literary criticism, etc. Most of my romance is on my Kindle, which is where I’ve started storing new books because I’m running out of space. It’s hard for me to narrow down my favorites, but some of my go-to authors are Octavia Butler, Marilynne Robinson, Edith Wharton, Victoria Dahl, Neal Stephenson, Rebecca Stead, Charlotte Stein…and a lot more. This question is too hard!
3. If Make Me Beg would be made into a movie, who would play Connor and Mackenzie?
I think Mack would be perfect as a brunette Kirsten Dunst with short hair. And Connor as a scruffy Chris Helmsworth—yes, please!
4. What's your favorite outdoors activity?
I love hiking in all seasons. I’ve been on some pretty amazing hiking trips to places around the world, like the Andes, the Alps, and Mt. Kilimanjaro. But I also love going on shorter day trips close to home. It’s a great way for me to decompress and clear my head from the day to day noise. Whenever I’m out somewhere beautiful, I can feel myself breathing deeper, plus I get the feeling of accomplishment and satisfaction of having made it when the walk is hard.
5. You've been all over the world. Which country would you like to visit again and why?
If someone handed me a plane ticket right now, I’d love to go back to Brazil and hang out on the beach with the friends I made there and haven’t seen in years. I was a teenager when I went to Cambodia, Vietnam, and India, and I think it would be fascinating to go back now as an adult and see how my perspective (and the places themselves) have changed. And while I just returned from Ecuador and the Galápagos a few months ago, I wouldn’t say no to being back in that beautiful paradise right now!
I honestly can’t think of anywhere I’ve been that I wouldn’t revisit. Although if I go to the Amazon again, I’m not stringing up a hammock in a cargo boat and sleeping crammed in with that many people for days. I’m not 22 anymore and I just don’t think I could take it!
6. What makes your heart beat faster?
Powering up a mountain and getting to that moment toward the top when the view opens up and I know I’m going to make it (even if my legs aren’t so sure). Flying down a steep slope on skis. Opening a book and knowing from the very beginning that I’m going to want to crawl inside it for days. Rooting for two characters to fall in love and finally getting to the moment when I know it’s all going to work out for them.
7. Do you have a favorite quote?
On my refrigerator is the quote: “Winners forget they’re in a race. They just love to run.” I think it works for writing, too. And, well, just about anything. Even when it’s hard, I try to remember that I write because I love it, and because there’s nothing else I want to do. Sometimes it feels like there’s always more work to be done, or I’m not pushing enough, or everyone else is ahead of me… But all that matters is that I’m out there, doing my personal best.
8. You write about delicious food and amazing drinks, where did you find the inspiration for this part of your story?
I love to cook and to share food with loved ones. I’m not the greatest chef and I don’t make anything particularly fancy, but to me, making food for someone is such an act of love. It’s no wonder I can’t help swooning over a chef hero who does the same for the woman of his dreams!
Since I wanted to write about a chef, I thought it would be really fun to make the heroine a bartender. Their jobs sum up a lot of the dynamic of their relationship. They think they’re at odds, working in completely different parts of the restaurant. But the reality is that they complement each other perfectly. And because cooking is such a male dominated industry, I wanted to have a badass heroine hold her own behind the bar!
Food is a perfect pairing for romance. Writing about what Mack and Connor are making and tasting let me add this whole layer of sensuality to the story, even in moments that aren’t overtly about sex. When two people fighting their attraction are so focused on taste, touch, and sensory pleasures, you know it can’t be long before they’re giving in to their every desire.
9. Can you describe Connor and Mackenzie in six words each?
Connor: strong, dirty, driven, dedicated, funny, and secretly sweet
Mack: independent, capable, stubborn, smart, committed, and more than a little bit snarky
10. What can we expect from you in the future?
Currently, I’m hard at work on the rest of the Men of Gold Mountain series. The series is four books, each set in a different season in gorgeous Gold Mountain, Washington, a tourist town nestled in the Cascades. The books all stand alone and can be read in any order, with a group of friends that come in and out of each story so readers can revisit their favorite couples and see how their relationships are doing. I promise no cliffhangers, no cheating, and a guaranteed HEA each time. J
