Book Review - Finding You in the Darkness by K.B. Andrews

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

 Review by Anniek

Riley and her best friend Raine are living together. Riley's working hard to graduate, so she can become a pediatric nurse. She has personally experienced how important these nurses are and she can't wait to start working at a hospital. When she's dragged out to a club by Raine, Riley meets the most gorgeous bartender ever. Jace is very different from the boys she dated in the past and she's determined to leave him alone. Riley knows that if she'd let him in she would fall in love with him. When Jace is showing her that he's actually a good guy Riley slowly opens up to him. She knows that there are some things that Jace is not honest about. Being lied to is the one thing that Riley hates the most. Will she make the right choices when the truth comes out?

Jace didn't have many options when he was growing up. Because of living with only his mother he's always been the man of the house. When his mom gets sick Jace has to put his own life aside to be there for her. The medication she needs is very expensive and she has to pay for everything herself. Being a single mom doesn't give her enough income to cover these high medical expenses. Jace has decided not to go to college and start working instead, so he can help his mom cover the bills. Making a lot of money also comes with difficult choices. Decisions not everyone will be able to understand. What will Jace do when all he has left is himself? How far would you go to save the one you love?

Riley is a kindhearted person. She's the opposite of Raine. Where Raine is outgoing, Riley wants to be left alone, so she can spend her time studying. They've known each other for ages and even though they don't always see eye to eye, Riley and Raine truly are best friends and will be forever. Riley is such a sweetheart. I laughed out loud so many times when I read about her and Raine. Their friendship is unconditional and I loved how Raine pulls Riley out of her shell when she needs it. She's special and I wished for her to succeed on every level.

Jace is a man every woman would swoon over. He's handsome, muscular and has plenty of ink on his body. He made some bad decisions, but is far from a bad person. Jace does everything with one reason in mind, his mother. He takes care of her and does whatever he can to make life easier for her. Jace has personal issues that he needs to work on, but his mother always comes first. I loved how caring and kind he is and how he doesn't back down when a challenge, in the form of Riley, comes along. Jace needs someone to bring light back into his life and I was hoping with all my heart that this someone would be Riley.

Finding You in the Darkness is a raw and pure love story. K.B. Andrews doesn't stay away from difficult subjects, but the way she writes about them didn't make the story too heavy. She approaches everything with dignity and respect and I loved that a lot. Finding You in the Darkness is a fantastic story with fascinating main characters, many interesting emotional layers and brilliant writing. K.B. Andrews is a new author for me and I can say with certainty that Finding You in the Darkness won't be the last book I've read by this amazing writer.

  4. It always makes a romance story better when the characters are flawed and have secrets. You flip the pages, anxious for what happens.
