Book Review - Sunset in Central Park by Sarah Morgan

Review by Suze

Frankie designs gardens for a living. She runs a successful business together with her two best friends, Eva and Paige. They share a building together with Paige's brother Matt and Frankie has her own apartment, her sanctuary. Matt is the only man Frankie lets into her life. After her parents' messy divorce, and the reputation her mother gained herself because of it, Frankie stopped believing in love. Falling for Matt is the last thing she wants, but it's hard to ignore him because she sees him almost every day.

Matt needs someone to help him with a roof garden and Frankie would be perfect for the job. She's reluctant to accept his offer, but as it's something she loves doing Frankie accepts after some convincing from both Matt and her best friends. This means she'll be working together with her secret crush for most of the summer. Matt has liked Frankie for years and finally he has a chance to break through her barriers. He has to be careful because even though he thinks he knows her, Frankie is hiding a lot more of herself than he initially suspected. Will she eventually give him a chance?

Sunset in Central Park is a wonderful sweet story. Frankie is afraid to get hurt. Her parents' divorce was traumatizing and the aftermath even more. Frankie has been hurt deeply in her past and my heart ached for her when I read about what happened to her. She tries to make herself as unattractive as possible, so men won't come near her, but Matt sees through her façade and he wants to get to know the real Frankie. He's interested in her and does everything he can to make her feel comfortable with him. He's kind and gentle and I loved both their chemistry and their amazing friendship.

Sarah Morgan writes about relationships in a beautiful captivating way. Her stories are fun and sexy, but they also have plenty of different emotional layers. Friends are just as important as lovers and I like that combination very much. She can easily put herself in someone else's place and she describes her characters in a vivid, moving and complete way. Frankie and Matt are such a lovely couple. They are people who truly deserve to be happy. Sunset in Central Park is a fantastic romantic story with an ending that put a big smile on my face.

Advice

Sunset in Central Park is part of a series, but can also be read as a standalone. I highly recommend the From Manhattan With Love stories, so would advise you to start with the first and read them all.

Review by Tanya

Frankie doesn’t want love and relationships in her life and doesn’t even believe that she is capable of being with a man. Matt has loved Frankie, who's his sister's best friend, from afar for a long time and now decides that it is time to act on this. He asks her to work on a roof garden together, but Frankie doesn't want him to come closer and keeps resisting the way he makes her feel. Will he be able to convince her to become more than just friends?

Sunset in Central Park has two fascinating settings. I like reading about New York, but I also loved that Puffin Island is one of the places that are being visited in this book. Characters that appeared in Sarah Morgan's Puffin Island series have a wonderful cameo role in this story and it was great to catch up with them and see the beauty of the island once more from again another angle.

Sarah Morgan's descriptions of the roof gardens, both the seating and the plants and flowers Matt and Frankie are working with, are amazing. I have never actually seen a roof garden and it is something I now want to experience as they sound incredible, especially the ones that are looking over Manhattan in the Sunset. Sarah Morgan makes them look very romantic and they are perfect for Matt and Frankie's story.

Sarah Morgan has done it again, she produced a book that I could not put down. The friendship between Eva, Paige and Frankie is very strong in Sunset in Central Park and after reading about both Paige and Frankie I now can’t wait to see want will happen to Eva in the next book in the series. I love books about both friendship and romance and think Sarah Morgan is extremely gifted at writing them.

Advice

I really enjoyed Sunset in Central Park and think it is just as great as Sleepless in Manhattan. Although it is the second book in the series it can easily be read as a standalone. Any characters that arise are being introduced in detail, but without seeming tedious to those who have read the first book.
