Book Review - Never The Bride by Charlotte Fallowfield

Amazon USA Amazon UK Goodreads

Review by Anniek

Abbie Carter is always the bridesmaid and never the bride. When she was younger she made a pact with a group of friends to be each other’s bridesmaids. This is why Abbie’s attic is filling up with dresses. Most of them will never see daylight again since Abbie hates them. Abbie lives in a cute cozy cottage with her gassy little dog Mr. Sumo. Her best friend Georgie lives in a cottage right next door. Abbie's leading a quiet life in a small town and is more than happy with the way things are. When she goes to yet another wedding Abbie meets the most beautiful man she has ever seen. Has she finally met her match made in heaven?

Abbie is someone who speaks her mind and this made me like her immediately. She’s the worst bridesmaid ever because she dislikes almost every dress and she’s not afraid of saying so. Abbie lost her mother and recently her father passed away as well. She struggles with her pain and grief, but is also determined to make something of herself. Abbie has the worst dog imaginable, but she loves him dearly. The situations she finds herself in made me laugh out loud so many times. Abbie is someone I would love to have as a friend.

Never The Bride is a love story full of fun. Abbie's neighbors are hilarious and I would have a field day if I would live in the same street. Charlotte Fallowfield has drawn a map of Dilbury Village. She's even managed to draw it in a way that also makes sense to me and I’m not skilled in the navigation department. This drawing made it very easy for me to picture Abbie's hometown. Because of this I had no trouble at all to connect with the story. Never The Bride is cute and a lot of fun. I had a hard time putting this book down. Charlotte Fallowfield has created an amazing group of friends and I can’t wait to read the next book in the Dilbury Village series. Never The Bride is a great romantic comedy. It’s full of humor and has an overall sweet and heartwarming feeling.

Advice

  18. I don't believe in love at first sight (lust that might lead to love, sure.) The plot sounds a bit hackneyed.
BUT, if its funny, a lot can be forgiven. Hmmm.

  19. Never The Bride sounds like an amazing & fun read about Abbie, who is always a bridesmaid, never a bride. Reading the review I can imagine an attic filled with the most hideous bridesmaids dresses never to be seen again. And her little dog sounds like mine, a gassy little guy. Silent but deadly was written about dogs, I just know it. Thank you for a great review, I loved it!
