Review by Anniek

Henley is always on the move. She goes from town to town and never stays long enough to call anywhere home. After a horrible event Henley was in a coma for three months. Ever since she woke up, she can feel someone's emotions just by touching them. She finds it difficult to deal with this new ability and her family isn't very supportive either. Henley went from being the golden child to someone her family sees as a liability. She now is a psychiatrist, but when she has to deal with mental problems of her own she thinks it is best for all parties to go away.

Carter once was a big city cop, but a tragic accident made him move to Trappers Cove. A small town with a low crime rate. He still has nightmares at night about what happened that unfaithful night. Carter needs to find forgiveness and he has a long journey ahead of him. When he sees Henley walking on the side of the road he's instantly intrigued by her. Will he have a chance to get to know her better and break down her walls? Someone's after Henley and she needs Carter to keep her safe, will she be able to let him in?

Henley thinks that she's weak, but I thought she was incredibly strong. It must be really hard to feel someone's emotions, good and bad, by touching them. Without unconditional and unlimited support from family or friends this would drive anyone insane. Henley is a loner and likes to keep to herself. She thinks people would run for the hills if they find out the truth about her. When Henley's car brakes down in Trappers Cove she has no choice but to stay there for a while. Henley eventually gets the feeling that someone is watching her. She thinks that this is just her imagination and blames her mental health for being paranoid. What if she's wrong and someone is actually following her? When things start to happen Henley is done running and is determined to face whoever is after her.

Every time Henley and Carter touch sparks fly. Carter has a big battle ahead of him if he wants to get Henley to fall in love with him. Carter and Henley both have their weaknesses, but they complement one another and therefore make each other stronger. Carter is patient with Henley and I loved the gentle way he treats her. When Henley tells him her secret he doesn't run away but chooses to stand by her side. I loved that aspect of the story.

Fated Hearts is a book about second chances and finding that one person who will always believe in you. Henley is a fantastic person. She's smart, trustworthy, organized and feisty. After everything that happened to her Henley put up a big wall around her heart. However, Carter is the one who can make a difference in her life. He won't back down without a fight and I thought of him as a true hero. Henley and Carter are great together.

All of the characters in Fated Hearts were easy to connect with. Becky Flade has done a great job making them come to life by giving them interesting personality traits. Fated Hearts is filled with suspense, gorgeous people and unexpected surprises. I couldn't read fast enough because I wanted to find out what would happen next. I found myself picking up my kindle every chance I got, just to read a few more lines. Becky Flade is a new author for me and I'm glad that I have discovered her stories.

About Becky Flade

A coffee addict and born city girl, I tend to place my stories in and around southeast Pennsylvania, or at least have a character or two from the area. Home is where the heart is and I make mine with my very own knight in slightly tarnished armor, three beautiful daughters ranging in ages from college through pre-school, two grandsons and a charming son-in-law. When I’m not busy living my own happily ever after, I’m writing about someone else’s.

Excerpt

“What are we doing, Carter?”

“Enjoying our evening.”

“You know what I mean.” She shifted her body and lifted her hand as if to touch his face. He tensed in anticipation. She skimmed her fingertips over his jaw, his cheek, featherlight touches that left a trail of fire across his skin. “I think I’m getting used to your touch. To … how you feel.”

“That’s a good thing.”

“Are you going to kiss me again?”

“Would you like me to?” He saw her nod this time and recognized the banked passion in her hooded gaze. He lowered his mouth to hers but pulled back before their lips met. “How much of what you’re feeling is you and how much me? I don’t want to influence you.”

“It’s both. And it astounds me.”

His muscles clenched with desire. He hadn’t intended to seduce her or himself tonight. He had only wanted her to become more comfortable with his company and his touch. They needed to build trust, and he’d wanted to lay that foundation. With a level of restraint he hadn’t thought he possessed he laid his forehead against hers.

“How about you kiss me, Doc?”

  3. How did you come up with the names of the characters?

    1. I like names. Sometimes I'll think of what I think sounds like a great name before I have a character. When that happens I put it on a post it note and slap it to my corkboard. Then when I'm writing, if I need to name someone I turn in my chair, stair at the corkboard until one JUMPS out at me.

    1. The hubz made one for me in the corner of our very large living room, in front of our big bay windows, so I can write in peace but never in isolation. Sometimes I require headphones to block the family out but otherwise it's the perfect spot.

  6. Where do you get the most inspiration to write?

    1. Inspiration comes from the unlikeliest of places often at the most inconvenient times. But mostly it's life that inspires me most. I'll be waiting in line at the bank and start telling myself a story about the person in line before me to break the boredom, stuff like that.
