Laurie doesn't trust anyone with her heart. She prefers to have meaningless hookups, she doesn't have boyfriends and she never goes on a date. Ethan has liked her for years and is biding his time until the right moment comes along to win Laurie's heart. Laurie is a successful baker with a bad reputation because of her mother and Ethan is the local sheriff who comes from a rich and respected family. Ethan has to be smart to get the woman he's always wanted and when Laurie's bakery burns down he knows she needs his support and he sees this an opportunity to convince her to spend more time with him. Does he have a chance with the woman of his dreams and will Laurie eventually open up to him?
Hard Compromise is a fun, sexy story about two people who are very different, but couldn't be more perfect for each other. Laurie is strong and independent. My heart ached for her as her mother is awful and makes her feel ashamed, so she doesn't let anyone come close. Ethan saved her once before when Laurie was terribly young and I hoped he'd get his second chance. He's a good guy and I admired his determination and cleverness. Becoming part of Laurie's life requires strategy and finesse. He's sweet, but he knows he has to be more than that to break down Laurie's walls. I loved their dynamics and their game of pushing and pulling is definitely interesting.
Samanthe Beck has written a story with plenty of hot scenes. Both Laurie and Ethan are skilled lovers and she uses this to give them an incredible amount of chemistry, but also to show their emotions, which is a fascinating combination. Hard Compromise is a quick and easy read and it has quite a few surprising elements. It's a story with plenty of sparks and I loved the reversed appointment of the men-women roles you so often see in romantic books. Samanthe Beck has done this in a fabulous way that doesn't only apply to her two main characters. I like how she plays with details and think her story is really cool.
Hard Compromise is perfect for readers who like sexy stories about men in uniform and strong independent women.
