Book Review - On Thin Ice by Aven Ellis

Review by Anniek
Holly has just graduated and is currently living with her brother Nate and his girlfriend Kenley. Nate is a professional hockey player and he wants Holly to go with him to a New Year's Eve party of the Dallas Demons. Nate doesn't know that Holly has severe social anxiety, so this event is asking a lot of her, but Holly decides to go anyway. As soon as she arrives at the party Holly is getting a panic attack. She flees to the balcony to try and calm herself down.

Matt is a star player for the Dallas Demons. For the outside world he's a party animal. He always has a beautiful model on his arm wherever he goes. Nobody knows the reason why Matt never lets anyone gets close to him. The only person who he opens up to is Holly, the girl he will never be able to call his own. When Matt sees Holly on the balcony he helps her through her panic attack and brings her home for a quiet New Year's Eve.

Holly is writing her first novel and is also looking for a day job so she can find a place of her own. She is a big Harry Potter fan, has a huge sock collection and uses stickers and washi tape to fill up her planner. She calls herself weird, but when I look at myself and my own friends she would fit in perfectly. Holly has a personality I instantly liked. She is so sweet and even though she struggles with her anxiety she doesn't let this stop her from reaching her goals.

Matt had a rough childhood with parents who only started to care when they found out he had a talent for hockey. He puts on a tough act ,but is actually just hiding the fact that he doesn't want to get hurt again. He pays attention to Holly and I loved how he treats her. He is such a sweetheart and goes all in when he opens up his heart to someone. Matt is adorable and I couldn't picture a person more suitable for Holly than him.

On Thin Ice is another great story by Aven Ellis. I absolutely loved every book I've read by her. Aven Ellis has no trouble at all to make a story come to life. Her main characters are people who are easy to connect with and this makes On Thin Ice a wonderful enjoyable read. Aven Ellis always manages to have me crying happy tears at the end of her books. On Thin Ice is sweet, funny, heartwarming and an absolute must-read.

I have been a fan of Aven Ellis since the very first book I've ever read by her and with On Thin Ice she has added another gem to her amazing collection of stories. It's a great relaxing read to curl up with on the sofa or your bed while having a nice hot drink. You'll probably instantly stop noticing what happens around you, but you'll remember the name Aven Ellis long after reading On Thin Ice.

  8. Social anxiety is a huge problem, particularly for the young, so it's great that the issue is being dealt with in a sensitive way.

  10. It's so sad when parents only care about their children in the hopes that they will get something out of it. Too bad parenting itself isn't enough. I already have a heart for Matt.
