Review by Anniek

Raney has lived in Oak Grove her entire life. She married her high school sweetheart and things couldn't be better. When her husband Bobby leaves her after just two years of marriage with only a short note as an explanation her world is falling apart. Eventually she tries to put her life together and has to find a way to overcome a shattered heart.

Bobby knows he found his soulmate in Raney and he always thought they would have their happily ever after. When his twin brother dies, Bobby loses his other half, his better half. Broken with grief Bobby flees town, leaving behind everything and anything he has ever known. Trying to find himself again he starts working as a veterinarian.

Now that his grandfather has gotten ill, Bobby has no choice but to return to Oak Grove. After being away for 20 years it is time to face the world he left behind. For Raney seeing Bobby again after such a long time brings back all the anger and hurt from so many years ago. What will happen when they spend time together again?

Raney had it rough after Bobby left. She didn't understand why and had to deal with the aftermath all by herself. I admired Raney because of the fact that she is still standing strong even after everything she went through. She considers Bobby's relatives family and she always kept in touch with his grandfather. Raney also still takes care of Bobby's brother's grave. She is a loyal friend and will never leave anyone behind when she's given them her heart.

Bobby couldn't face his demons after the death of his brother, so he did the only thing he could think of, he ran away. Time didn't heal his wounds and when he sees Raney again he must acknowledge that he never stopped loving her. In the beginning I found his actions harsh and unnecessary, but I had some compassion at the same time as we all deal with pain and grief in a different way. Bobby does what he can to apologize for the hurt he caused. He wants to make up for the years he wasn't there. He is a hardworking man who isn't afraid to show his feelings. I liked reading about the way he was trying to fix his relationship with Raney.

A Crazy Reunion is a beautiful story about learning how to become whole again after a tremendous loss. I loved reading Raney and Bobby's story and liked the way they slowly reconnected. It shows that true love will always be enough to heal what was once broken. Cate Baylor has written a story about some very difficult and sad subjects, but there is a good balance and she manages to add enough positivity at the same time. She has a writing style that's easy to read, which made me fly through the pages. I love it when an author makes me feel the emotions of her characters and really enjoyed A Crazy Reunion because of this. It's such a heartwarming romantic story and I highly recommend it.

Advice

A Crazy Reunion is a beautiful story about a second chance at true love. It's perfect for lovers of small town romance.

Excerpt

“Raney—“

“No.” She cut him off with a short gesture of her hand. “We can’t… You can’t keep doing this to me.”

He tried to get her to look him in the eye, but she just kept pushing him away as he was trying to pull her closer. He needed to know she felt it, too, but with each word and push, he felt that hope slipping away.

“Raney.” He hated the pleading in his tone but was powerless to stop it. “I know you feel this, too.”

Finally she met his gaze and the deep sadness in her eyes made him feel hollowed out. He squeezed her shoulders, only wanting to make that sadness go away, but she pushed him back again.

“Rob, no! I mean it. You can’t keep…tangling me up like this. No more.” And with that she let her hands drop from his chest and stepped away.

Then a man stepped between them, pushing him away from her even further. He registered the flashing eyes and clenched fists of Jordan, and braced himself.

Even in the daze she created when she was around him, Rob realized he’d blundered. It was a dude code that you never poached on another guy’s date. He’d done just that and was about to pay the price.
