Lucie and Dale have been best friends for a very long time. They are spending most of their days together and Lucie is like a daughter to Dale's parents. While Dale is a big fan of the holidays Lucy hates Christmas. She has her reasons, but nobody knows what's really going on inside her head and heart. She tells Dale everything else, but she can't speak to him about Christmas. It's the time of year Lucie's mother died and even though that was many years ago it's difficult for Lucie to enjoy the festivities.

When Lucie is being asked as a bridesmaid at her friend Petra's wedding, with all the expenses covered, Lucie asks Dale to come with her. Dale thinks he can give Lucie the Christmas of her dreams so she will start liking it again. Maybe when they're there, while experiencing Manhattan's magic, they will find out if there could be more between them than just friendship. Are they prepared to risk everything they have and will something more happen between them or will they play things safe and stay friends?

A Very Merry Manhattan Christmas is an amazing festive story that immediately filled my heart with joy. Lucie is a sweet girl. Her past has made her reluctant to show too much of herself, but she has a sparkling personality. She's also a bit clumsy, which is adorable. Dale is a gentleman with a beautiful kind personality. He's incredibly easy to love and he's the perfect man for someone as lovely as Lucie. I liked their friendship and close connection and could really feel this bond because of all of their little rituals and endearing gestures towards one another. They're a cute couple and they are the perfect main characters for a heartwarming Christmas story.

Darcie Boleyn has a wonderful way with words and she has a great sense of humor as well. A Very Merry Manhattan Christmas is filled with hilarious situations and I often laughed out loud. I love books that make me giggle. Darcie Boleyn combines sadness with lightness and cheer in a fantastic balanced way. Her story is very romantic and I enjoyed it so much that it's now on my list of favorite Christmas reads. I highly recommend this dreamy Christmas story.

Advice

A Very Merry Manhattan Christmas is the perfect book for readers who like a funny story that's also serious and deep enough to give it substance.

About Darcie Boleyn

Darcie Boleyn has a huge heart and is a real softy. She never fails to cry at books and movies, whether the ending is happy or not. Darcie is in possession of an overactive imagination that often keeps her awake at night. Her childhood dream was to become a Jedi but she hasn’t yet found suitable transport to take her to a galaxy far, far away. She also has reservations about how she’d look in a gold bikini, as she rather enjoys red wine, cheese and loves anything with ginger or cherries in it – especially chocolate. Darcie fell in love in New York, got married in the snow, rescues uncoordinated greyhounds and can usually be found reading or typing away on her laptop.

Christmas Q&A

1) Name five random things about yourself.

I got married in the snow.

I have a bulldog, a rescue greyhound and four bearded dragons.

My favourite crisps are Guinness flavoured.

I find baking soothing.

I make huge Yorkshire puddings.

2) Choose four words you associate with Christmas.

Family. Food. Tree. Fun.

3) What's on the top of your Christmas wish list this year?

Plenty of quality family time. And books…

4) What's your favourite Christmas book?

A Christmas Carol – I have read lots of other gorgeous Christmas stories but I don’t want to start naming them in case I miss one out.

5) What's your favourite place to celebrate Christmas?

At home with my family but one year I would love to take them all to New York and celebrate it out there. Possibly in style at The Plaza.

6) Name your best and worst Christmas present.

The best one was my engagement ring. My husband proposed to me in late October 2009 in Times Square, New York, then that Christmas he presented me with a beautiful white gold diamond ring and a photo album of our time in Manhattan. There was room left in the album for future memories.

My worst one was a pack of those jelly beans where some taste like vomit.

7) What are the three things you like best about winter romance?

Christmas is such a magical time of year. In A Very Merry Manhattan Christmas, I send my characters to New York to attend a winter wedding, throw in some snow, a luxury hotel, plenty of champagne, Central Park, some revelations and a dash of festive magic. With such a wonderful combination, who knows what might happen…

8) What are your three must-haves for a good Christmas story?

A wonderful destination. Plenty of festive magic. Ghosts of Christmas past, present and future.

9) Describe the main characters of A Very Merry Manhattan Christmas in six words each.

Lucie Quigley – Sweet. Kind. Insecure. Hurt. Strong. Loyal.

Dale Treharne – Supportive. Caring. Devoted. Strong. Passionate. Honest.

10) What's your favourite Christmas food?

I enjoy lots of different food types, so I don’t really have a favourite. On Christmas Day, we have these amazing bagels for breakfast though, filled with smoked salmon, cheese, maple syrup and poached eggs, and they’re pretty delicious. But I also enjoy Christmas dinner and Christmas cake.

11) Which four things do you like to do besides writing?

Reading. Walking my dogs. Napping. Watching movies with my family.
