Review by Suze
Holly's career is important to her. She's a wedding planner and works for a very demanding and often bitchy boss. Her new neighbor Kevin is the desperate owner of the dilapidated house next door. He regrets asking his sister to buy him something and trusting her judgment. The house needs a lot of work and he has no idea where to begin. The only thing he likes about his new place to live is that it's next to the house of a wonderful gorgeous girl named Holly.
Kevin and Holly are immediately attracted to one another and they give in to their feelings. It could have been the start of something more, but Kevin and his friends have a no-women pact and Holly has to make a success of her next wedding if she ever wants to be able to start her own business, which is her big dream. There's a lot at stake and being distracted is the last thing she needs. Holly and Kevin might think they should stay away from each other, but is that really going to work?
Holly is a sweet and caring girl. She doesn't have a large family and has a lot to deal with on her own, but she does everything without ever complaining. She's strong and capable and I liked that very much. She can easily handle all kinds of people, even her difficult boss. I admired her for that. Kevin isn't happy with the state his new house is in. He's much more interested in his new neighbor than in doing up his house, which put a big smile on my face. He's the kind man who isn't afraid to show his feelings and he goes after what he wants. It's obvious from the start that Holly and Kevin are miserable when they are spending time apart. There are plenty of sparks and I really liked that Denise Grover Swank has made it so clear that they're meant to be together, that suits the story really well.
Only You is a funny romantic novel. I laughed out loud plenty of times and loved Denise Grover Swank's scintillating sense of humor. Nothing ever goes according to plan and she kept surprising me, especially with the ending of the book, which is original and really amazing. I love it when a book is so much fun. I also enjoyed reading about Holly's job, which is definitely challenging while at the same time it's a charming adventure. Denise Grover Swank's vivid descriptions of Holly's work situation sometimes made me feel sorry for her, but Holly can stand her ground and having Kevin in her life certainly helps.
I'm a big fan of stories about neighbors and Only You is a fascinating one. Reading about the two houses felt natural and I liked the amount of detail Denis Grover Swank uses to write about them. Her creative observations and the chemistry between Holly and Kevin are fabulous. Only You is a delightful story and it's a promising beginning of the Bachelor Brotherhood series. I can't wait to read the next book.
