Valerie's father is a preacher and he expects his only daughter to be respectable and to live her life in service of the church. Valerie works as a school secretary and she volunteers in her free time. She also has a secret identity, she writes romance novels under a pen name. Valerie's father wants her to date guys she finds dull and whiny, but actually Valerie fancies someone with tattoos and a motorcycle. Griffin is the perfect candidate for a fun summer, which is exactly what she needs.
Griffin trains police dogs. When Valerie's dog sitting leads to an almost-accident Griffin offers her to help training Sweet Cheeks, the puppy Valerie is taking care of. Griffin thinks he isn't dating material, especially not for a preacher's daughter who volunteers at a nursing home for the elderly. Valerie intrigues him though. Her personality has a mysterious side Griffin would love to explore. However, once he gets to know her better he's desperate for more. Will the summer bring them the pleasure they were both hoping for or will it end in heartbreak?
Welcoming the Bad Boy is a great hot romance. I immediately loved Valerie. She's a fierce woman and she does everything she wants to do. The only thing she doesn't succeed in is pleasing her father. Valerie loves romance and she writes her books in secret, which is such an amusing element of the story. She has a wild side that she only shows to Griffin, which makes their bond incredibly strong from the start. Griffin has been damaged by his past. There are things he regrets, but can't undo. He loves animals and is better with dogs than he is with people. He has a good heart and feels deeply, but he doesn't always know what to do with his emotions. He's struggling, but he's making progress and that was amazing to watch. There's plenty of sizzling chemistry between him and Valerie, which is something I liked a lot.
Annie Rains knows how to tell a good romantic story. I loved that she's chosen to write about an author. It was interesting to read about Valerie's work and she has a versatile personality. There are plenty of deep meaningful scenes in Welcoming the Bad Boy. Valerie and Griffin both spend a lot of time in the nursing home and it greatly impressed me to read about their experiences with the elderly. I immediately fell in love with some of the inhabitants, the nursing home is quite special. Annie Rains has a caring and sympathetic voice. She writes about dogs and people in a sweet way that warmed my heart. Welcoming the Bad Boy is a wonderful complete romantic story.

“Damn.” He tipped her chin up with his index, looking at her with his dark molasses eyes. "I’m serious. I want to go out on a date tomorrow. No sex."
"No sex?" she asked.
“Just flowers and chocolates. And lots of kissing. Say yes to me,” he said, kissing her mouth again, making it impossible for her to tell him no.
“But there is more sex tonight, right?” she asked, moaning as he lowered his mouth to cover one breast.
“Say yes, Val,” he said, as the rough, unshaven edge of his jaw scraped against her skin, feeding her arousal.
“Yes,” she said through shortened breaths. “I say yes.”
He emitted a low laugh that tickled against her skin. Then he thrust himself inside her again, making up for the arrangement they’d just made for tomorrow. Making up for all the lonely nights she’d endured until this one. Making up for all the lonely nights she would endure after he was gone.

A Mistletoe Welcome is an endearing short story about Valerie and Griffin, the main characters of Welcoming the Bad Boy. It was nice to read a little more about them and this story is like a fabulous late birthday gift or a New Year's present. Even though it's short it's moving and there's tension and promise. It also has an incredibly sweet romantic ending. I loved this story very much and recommend you to download it, so you can read it straight after Welcoming the Bad Boy.
