Beautiful Covers & Giveaway

Cover Art
By Suze

I love beautiful book covers. I can look at stunning cover art for hours. There are so many different cover designs and I love how attractive most books look. I'll still buy a book if I don't like the cover and I wouldn't buy a book only because I like the cover, but I do look at the way a story is being presented. Tastes vary and that is something I love. I think it's great that we all have diverse opinions and different likes and loves. However, when you buy a delicious gourmet chocolate or a nice piece of jewelry you also want the package to be nice. You'd still eat the chocolate and wear the jewelry if it would have been put in an ugly brown bag, but the joy of receiving them is just that little bit bigger if they would have been packaged with care and attention. I feel like that when I'm looking at book covers. I'd like them to charm, spellbind and amaze me.

I've made a selection of book covers. I've read these books in 2016 and every time I look at them I'm impressed by how beautiful they are. They're all stories I highly recommend, so in my opinion these books can be judged by their covers. I want to thank the large number of artists who spend their time making fantastic book covers, because they brighten my days and they often make me smile.

  12. If a cover catches my eye, I'm more likely to pick it up and read the back cover. Whatever anyone says, books are judged (however subconsciously) by their covers.

  18. Covers are important, I really look to see if they embody the story they represent. It always amazes me just how artistic and creative the folks who design them are.

  23. Book covers are very important, often they give you a glimpse of the story or subject before you've even opened the book. Some book covers are stunning and works of art in their own right too.

  24. A lot of times the book cover is what draws me to the book, then the plot. :)

  25. I do judge books by their covers, I know, I know, not good, but covers are the first thing that catch my attention, and then I read what the book is about, to me the cover has to be interesting, a pretty cover would be cool too. 😊

  26. I do pay a lot of attention to book covers, but I would still read a book if the cover wasn't too pretty. It is so satisfying, though, when your favorite book has a beautiful cover.

  28. Yes I pay attention to book covers. They are what draws me to a book, unless I already had planned to buy the book from an certain author. I would have never discovered Miss Peregrine by Ransom Riggs if I wasn't drawn to the cover :) I of course, love beautiful covers, however I'm also drawn to black and white covers with a splash of color :)

In response to your questions of
Do you pay attention to book covers
and what do you think about beautiful covers?
Yes i always pay attention to book covers because i think they are very important.
It's the book cover that catches my attention and then i decide if i want to read the book.
I think beautiful covers are fine as long as they go along with the plot of the book.
If it's a horror novel or Science Fiction i don't think a beautiful cover would fit.
Thank you for having this giveaway.

  39. I'm a firm believer of never judging a book by its cover. We cover analysing book covers as part of the English curriculum and I always like to try to do that to my own reading material before I start and see if I was right.

  49. >> Do you pay attention to book covers? <<

(A bit of food for thought: How many of us have heard "Never judge a book by its cover"? ...And yet books DO have covers, and a whole lot goes into creating them!)

Yes, I do pay attention to book covers. I'll admit that I can be a bit harsh on, or dismissive of, a cover that I deem to be too tacky, trashy, or "cheap/hasty clip art -y." That being said, the flipside is not necessarily true all of the time: I'm not one to pine for a book merely out of love for its beautiful cover. If I adore a cover THAT MUCH (but have zero interest in the book itself), I could always save an image to my computer, cut a promo photo out of a magazine, etc.

    >> What do you think about beautiful covers? <<

I really respect and admire the amount of thought and effort that goes into a beautiful cover. I can't even imagine how tough it must be, to put together all of the various components of the design! (Color scheme/palette, graphics, text, spacing, font, style, mood, originality; making it stand out / be original...) --Wow, what strange timing. I just now scrolled up to review the books/covers, and noticed the cover of "Sisters and Lies." ...Anyone else see a strong resemblance to "It Ends with Us"??

    Truly a beautiful collection, Suze.
