Reading in the Sun - Interview with Mika Jolie & Giveaway

About Mika Jolie

Mika Jolie lives in New Jersey with her happy Chaos—her husband and their energizer bunnies. She loves to write about life experiences and matters of the heart. Let’s face it, people are complicated and love can be messy. When she’s not weaving life and romance into evocative tales, you can find her on a hiking adventure, apple picking, or whatever her three men can conjure up.

1. Could you tell us a bit about yourself?

Mika: I live in New Jersey with what I refer to as my Happy Chaos—my husband and our two energizer bunnies. I’m a sports fanatic and a wine aficionado, and I’m determined to balance it all and still write about life experiences and matters of the heart. When I’m not weaving life and romance into evocative tales, you can find me on a hiking adventure, apple picking, or whatever her three men can conjure up.

2. What kind of books do you bring with you when you go on holiday?

Mika: I have an eclectic taste in everything. Easily, you can find any of the the following books in my travel bag. 1776 by David McCullough, The Inn Boonsboro Trilogy by Nora Roberts, A Year in Provence by Peter Mayle, The Complete Collected Poems of Maya Angelou, All He Ever Wanted, by Anita Shreve

3. If you could spend a sunny day anywhere how would your perfect day look like?

Mika: (Smiles) It would have to be on Martha’s Vineyard, sunbathing, exploring the island with my family, and definitely with a nice chilled glass of dark & stormy nearby.

4. Could you tell us about your hobbies (when you are not writing or reading)?

Mika: Well, when I’m not writing, I’m often with my family. I love that we spend a lot of time outside hiking, etc. At least, once a month I also get together with my girlfriends for dinner.

5. Where do you find the inspiration for your stories?

Mika: Quite frankly anywhere. It could be during a stroll through town. The other day we went to the farm with the boys and a scene for my next novel came to mind. As a writer, I’m always aware, always writing notes as I come.

6. If you could be any leading character from a bestselling book, who would you be and why?

Mika: That’s a good question. I never thought of it.

7. What's your favorite reading spot?

Mika: (Laughs) My bed after everyone goes to bed.

8. What is your favorite holiday destination and what do you like so much about it?

Mika: I love to travel and seeing the world, but Martha’s Vineyard, where my Martha’s Way series take place, is the one place I can go to any time during the year and I automatically feel at peace. The Vineyard is a longtime New England summer colony, surrounded by harbor towns and lighthouses, sandy beaches and farmland.
9. Do you have any advice for authors who would like to write a sunny story?

Mika: No matter what type of story an author chooses to write, I always say stay true to yourself, and follow your heart.

10. What can we expect from you in the future?

Mika: Somewhere to Begin the first book of the Poison and Wine series will be released on September 20th. A little background about this series, In Need You Now (Book 2 of the Martha’s Way series), we met Lily Serrano’s three older brothers—Rafael, Zander, and Maximus. In the Poison and Wine series, we get their stories. We know they are from a tight-knit family. We also know Rafa is a widower. Zander is a Navy SEAL, and Max is the playboy photographer. Through it all, the Serrano brothers are alpha men who’ll do anything to protect those they love.
