The Girl He Needs by Kristi Rose | Lyrical Shine | July 5, 2016
The safe choice can be the riskiest of all…
Ever since her beloved older brother disappeared after an accident, Josie Woodmere’s been on a mission to find him—and maybe herself—along the way. That’s meant leaving her pampered, parent-approved life behind. Two years, four moves, and a body piercing later, she’s finally got a lead on her brother’s whereabouts, and she’s headed to Florida. She didn’t plan to ditch her sputtering car and accept a ride from Brinn McRae. But she didn’t plan to be attracted to a straight-laced guy like him either, much less land in his hometown, Daytona Beach…
A self-made man with a tough past, Brinn is a workaholic who allows very little room for pleasure—until he meets Josie. Their powerful chemistry is a distraction neither wants, yet neither can resist. Hoping they can burn it off, Brinn agrees to a no-strings arrangement. But they can only hide their deepening feelings for so long—until a disaster strikes, exposing truths that threaten to ruin everything…
Now, not only will Josie have to contend with the troubling secret her brother has finally revealed—she’ll have to convince Brinn she’s more than a rich girl playing at being free. This time, she’s playing for keeps.

Josie's brother Will was her best and only friend. He checked out of the hospital after being there for several weeks and never returned. Josie has been looking for him for two years. She's traveling from place to place and hopes she will find him eventually. She left her parents' dreams and expectations behind, so she can solely focus on her brother. When Will tells her he's in Florida Josie packs her bags and moves. On her way to Daytona Beach her car breaks down and she has to hitchhike to get there. Brinn gives her a lift as she coincidentally is on her way to his hometown.
Josie finds a job and a home. The rent is high, so she needs a second job. That is when she meets Brinn again. He lives near her and they work for the same company. Josie is a no-strings attached girl and she wants to show the serious Brinn how to have fun. She's supposed to leave again after a few months, so they both know it's a temporary thing. Will they be all right with that and when Josie finally finds her brother, will she be able to say goodbye?
Josie has a fascinating personality. She's free, she's extremely intelligent, she's living by her own rules and she likes decorating her body with henna. She's a strong woman and she doesn't mind standing out in a crowd. I loved how Kristi Rose uses body art as one of the ways to define her personality. I enjoy reading about main characters who can take care of themselves and liked Josie from the start. Brinn is a sweet guy who works hard for his future. He forgets that there's more in life than work and Josie wants to show him how to start living again. They have great chemistry and their friendship is special as well. They're good together and I enjoyed reading about their ups and downs.
Kristi Rose writes about serious topics like illness, difficult relationships with parents and losing everything you have in a sympathetic way. She mixes it with sexy scenes and that works very well. Her story has many interesting emotional layers. I loved reading about Josie and her brother Will. There's so much about the past she doesn't know and it was intriguing to find out what it was. I read this book in one sitting, the story grabbed my attention from the start and I couldn't put it down.
Kristi Rose's writing has an easy flow. She uses creative ways to describe her characters and she writes about them in detail, so the reader has the chance to get to know them through and through, which is something I really liked. I also loved the strong bonds Josie manages to form with people. She and Brinn are smart, which is something else I appreciated. It's clear that Kristi Rose has paid a lot of attention to the technical aspects of her story. There are many fabulous different parts and together they make The Girl He needs a wonderful complete book. I loved everything about this novel and think it's amazing.
