Book Review - Melody Bittersweet and The Girls' Ghostbusting Agency by Kitty French

Review by Suze

Melody Bittersweet can see ghosts. She used to help her mother and grandmother, but it's time for her to do something by herself. That's why she starts her own business. She's 27 years old and at that age life changing things are supposed to happen. Her mother and grandmother live in the same house and they share her gift. It's time for Melody to follow her own instincts and find a new way to use her abilities, so she starts a ghostbusting agency. She works with good friends and she finds a useful assistant, so she's ready for her first assignment.

Scarborough House is haunted and therefore nobody wants to buy it. The owner wants to get rid of his poltergeist. When she arrives at the house for the first time Melody meets Leo, her old lover and rival. They have to work towards the same goal and only one of them can succeed. Leo is a handsome man, but he's quite arrogant. There's also a journalist named Fletcher who keeps distracting Melody. They can't seem to see eye to eye about anything and there's plenty of tension between them. Meanwhile the ghost story becomes more and more intriguing. Will Melody be able to beat Leo and be the first to unravel the mystery of Scarborough House?

Melody Bittersweet is absolutely fantastic. She has a sparkling personality. She loves anything sweet and is a big fan of eating mouthwatering homemade Sicilian creations. She speaks before she thinks and has an honest nature, which sometimes results in conflicting situations. When something that comes out of her mouth isn't the exact truth she will do everything she can to make it happen, whatever it is. I absolutely loved Melody's vibrant personality. She can find joy in every situation and she approaches people with warmth and kindness, but when needed she can easily stand up for herself. I immediately loved reading about her and her adventures are fabulous.

Kitty French has a great sense of humor. I laughed out loud plenty of times while reading this story. Melody and her family are delightfully crazy. It was a lot of fun to read about them. Melody stumbles through every situation. She's perfectly capable and at the same time she creates a lot of chaos, which is a successful combination. Her friends are just as nuts and I loved all of them. I enjoyed reading about Melody's interactions with both living and dead people and Kitty French's lively and comical approach of the topic is creative and original.

Kitty French has written a book that will put a smile on many people's faces and I think that's a precious gift. I really liked Melody Bittersweet and The Girls' Ghostbusting Agency. It's the perfect summer read, it's an uplifting, enchanting and sunny story. Kitty French has written a heartwarming book that will brighten up even the greyest days and the darkest nights.
