About Claire Luana
Claire Luana grew up in Edmonds, Washington, reading everything she could get her hands on and writing every chance she could get. Eventually, adulthood won out and she turned her writing talents to more scholarly pursuits, graduating from University of Washington School of Law and going to work as a commercial litigation attorney at a mid-sized law firm.
While continuing to practice law, Claire decided to return to her roots and try her hand once again at creative writing. Her first novel, Moonburner, will be published in 2016 with Soul Fire Press, an imprint of Christopher Matthews Publishing. She is currently working on the sequel, Sunburner. In her (little) remaining spare time, she loves to hike, travel, run, play with her two dogs, and of course, fall into a good book.

Kai's parents have always known that their daughter is a moonburner. Living in a town that could sentence her to die for this, Kai has been brought up like a boy. Kai is just a few months away from turning eighteen. This is the day that Kai and her parents will leave the town, so Kai can finally be who she really is. When moonburners attack their town Kai saves a young boy who is trapped in his house. The flames burn through her disguise. Now that everyone can see that she is a girl and her hair is showing its true color Kai is sent to the desert to die.
During her desert ordeal Kai gets help from her seishen. Only the best moonburners are honored with a seishen. Kai's seishen is a silver fox named Quitsu. He is her extra pair of eyes and ears and will do anything to keep her safe. As long as Kai lives her seishen will live as well and when she dies he will die too. When she meets the Oracle of the moonburners Kai is given a premonition:
"The moon cannot enslave the sun, nor make the day its mistress. Or victory shall spell defeat, a crimson sky its auspice. The sun and moon must shine as one, or all will be undone."
The moonburners and the sunburners have been at war since forever. No one can even remember anymore what started the hate in the first place. What can be done when you have a king and a queen on opposite sides? Kai learns that hate is never the answer and that the moonburners and the sunburners need each other more than they could have ever imagined.
Kai is a good and loyal daughter who has always followed her parents' lead. She shows true strength when she has to survive on her own. I felt proud when I saw how much she pushes herself and makes sure never to give up. Kai is also kind to strangers and knows the difference between right and wrong. She isn't afraid to stand up for what she believes in. I think that Claire Luana has chosen a fantastic main character for her story.
Claire Luana created a beautiful magical world with both glory and ugliness. It was exciting to get more information in each chapter and to read about the secrets that are being uncovered. The adventure for Kai really begins when she hears the premonition of the Oracle and it ends with a premonition as well. This gives you a little inside information about what's to come in Claire Luana's next book, Sunburner. I can't wait to find out when Sunburner will be released, because I look forward to continue reading this amazing series.
One winner will receive a copy of Moonburner, a free e-copy of Burning Fate, the prequel to Moonburner (only available in electronic form), and a $50 Amazon gift card. Good Luck!
