Review by Anniek

When she was younger Kat didn't fit in with the popular girls at school. She applied to colleges as far away from her hometown as she could get, but lately Kat has been hearing a voice which is calling her home. So there she is sitting across one of the former It-girls trying to get a job at the library. Kat lives a boring life. She is staying at her grandmother's house while her grandmother is away and doesn't really date or go out. Her mother is doing everything in her power to change that.

One evening Kat sees a rabbit stealing her carrots. She has tried everything to catch that little thief but so far always came up empty. Now that she has him in her sight she chases after the rabbit and ends up in Wonderland instead. This rabbit turns out to be sweet, kind and childlike and just couldn't resist those delicious carrots.

Kat needs to find her way out of Wonderland and for that she needs a key. Alice is the one who has this key so Kat will have to persuade her to give it up. Kat soon finds out that in Wonderland nothing is what it seems. As a human she is taught to think with a logical mind, but that kind of thinking will not get her far right now. Will she be able to find her way back home before she is caught by the queen?

Erin Bedford has created a wicked and magical world. She kept me interested throughout the entire story because there is so much going on. I also loved the little details from the original Alice in Wonderland. That book will always be one of my favorites. Erin Bedford kept enough of the original story intact to help you understand the insanity that is Wonderland, but she added a lot of new twists and craziness to it as well.

Kat is feisty and bold and she quickly begins to understand how the Wonderland world works. She is a great character and I would love to read more about her. Chasing Rabbits is a fun read, but it does have some dark elements too. The story is compelling with all of its chaos and I absolutely loved it. If you are a fan of the old tales, and in particular of Alice in Wonderland, I would highly recommend Chasing Rabbits. You will be in for a crazy ride.
