Fighter Girl by Kathryn James - Book Review & Giveaway

 About Kathryn James

Kathryn lives in Leicester with her family, writing full time (and loves that!) Kathryn always wanted to become an author and wrote her first story at age eight. But it took quite a while and lots of different jobs before she got published.

She's worked with gypsy and traveller children, working from a converted bus with a rainbow on the side, doing video and photography projects, and documenting travelling lives.
Mist draws on and is influenced by her work with this community.

She's also written scripts for a local video production company, many of them for children and teenagers.

Sammy Jo is an amazing fighter. She uses her skills to earn some money, but anything she does is for the people she loves. Family is everything in Sammy Jo's world. She's a gypsy and even though her family doesn't travel that much any more because they own a gym, she still lives in a caravan. For her sister's wedding they go to a nearby town, a place where they've always set up camp. They used to feel welcome there, only something has changed, a company is now next to their field. The owner of the business, McCloud, isn't very friendly and hates Sammy Jo from the start.

Gregory is the boy whose father owns the field that's normally reserved for the caravans. Sammy Jo likes him, but she can never become friendly with him because he has a home and he isn't one of the traveling people. They keep running into each other and instantly like one another. Unfortunately they don't always meet in the best of circumstances. Sammy Jo has made a dangerous enemy and she'll have to fight for a lot more than just a bit of money.

Fighter Girl is an adrenaline-packed romantic story. Sammy Jo is a fantastic heroine. She's a great fighter and is very passionate. She also loves with all her heart and justice is very important in her world. She's sixteen years old, but she lives like an adult and she deals with everything that comes her way. I loved that about her. She also has a good dress sense and it was fun to read about both sides of her character.

Sammy Jo accidentally stumbles upon something that causes her a lot of trouble. She can usually fight her way out of anything, but McCloud and his men really scare her. The story kept me on the edge of my seat. Kathryn James has written such a gripping book and I couldn't turn the pages fast enough. The ending is spectacular, it's a fabulous finale of a thrilling story.

Kathryn James's writing flows easily and I loved her choice of characters. She describes their personalities in detail, so the reader will get to know them well. Sammy Jo is interesting and she isn't like most other girls. I liked that very much. She's close to her grandmother, which is another thing I enjoyed about this book. They have such a beautiful unique bond. Gregory is a cute guy whose heart is in the right place. The romance part of the story is really sweet. Everything together makes this story complete and fascinating. I loved this wonderful roller coaster ride and highly recommend it.
