Pieces of You and Me by Erin Fletcher - Guest Post, Book Review & Giveaway

About Erin Fletcher

Erin is a young adult author from North Carolina. She is a morning person who does most of her writing before sunrise, while drinking excessive quantities of coffee. She believes flip-flops qualify as year-round footwear, and would spend every day at the beach if she could. She has a bachelor's degree in mathematics, which is almost never useful when writing books.

Childhood Sweethearts

My best friend Jane started dating one of her classmates, Nick, back in middle school. They started dating in eleventh grade, stayed together through graduation, and even survived a slightly long distance relationship while attending different colleges. They got engaged, attended medical school together, got married, and recently had their second beautiful baby girl.

My favorite part about Jane and Nick’s relationship? They never dated anyone else. Not seriously. They knew way back then that they were meant to be together. They never had to consider anyone else because they were perfect for each other.

#relationshipgoals, amirite?

Childhood sweethearts are awesome. But the truth is, being in that kind of relationship is not always as easy as it was for Nick and Jane. Take Rylee and Chase from Pieces of You and Me. They also met in middle school, but then were separated for five years due to circumstances beyond their control.

A lot can change in five years.

Some childhood sweethearts get to go through those changes together. To process them slowly. For Chase and Rylee, those changes were dumped on them all at once. Everything they used to have in common is gone. They both look different. Act different. But somehow they find they’re still attracted to each other, just in a completely different way from the best friends they were before.

Even once they realize that, their family and friends seem hell-bent on making sure the couple stays far, far apart. The question hangs over their heads: can things between them be as good as they were before? And if they can, will it last?

Maybe those kinds of challenges and fears are more common in childhood sweetheart relationships than what Nick and Jane experienced, but when a couple can face those fears? Overcome those challenges? That’s when you know a relationship is going to last. That’s when it’s going to be better than ever before.

Childhood sweethearts of the world, I’m rooting for you.

Chase and Rylee were best friends, but then Chase moved away all of a sudden. They haven't seen each other for five years and now he's back. In some ways he's still the Chase Rylee liked so much all those years ago, but in others he has changed. Chase is trouble. He doesn't have a stable home, he doesn't go to all of his classes and he takes a lot of risks, but he still likes the same things he was interested in back then. Rylee is a model student with a group of loyal friends. They don't like Chase as he's hurt her before and there are no guarantees that he won't do it again. The past isn't something they can erase though and they feel just as drawn to each other as back then and more...

Pieces of You and Me is a story about childhood love. When Chase left he broke Rylee's heart. Now that he's back he has the chance to make things right again. Only he's messed up and there's a lot that's bothering him. He doesn't want to hurt Rylee again, but while trying to do that he might hurt her even more. Even though Chase has his issues he's a sweet and good guy. I'm a big fan of stories about childhood sweethearts and I kept my fingers crossed that his life would become a lot better the whole time I was reading this story. Erin Fletcher describes his pain so well that I could feel it.

Rylee is a sweet girl and she's let a part of herself go when she lost her friendship with Chase. She struggles with their connection and the pressure of her friends who want her to ignore him. Erin Fletcher has written an emotional story about two wonderful main characters who deserve to have a second chance with each other. I was moved by the story and understood where all of their mixed feelings were coming from.

Pieces of You and Me is a romantic story. It isn't cute and sweet though. There are some honest and raw elements, like drinking and what alcohol can do to you and the people around you. The story has plenty of layers and there's pain, hope and a lot of love. I enjoyed reading this story very much and absolutely loved this amazing book.
