Caleb doesn't do love. He's dated a lot of girls and he keeps them at a safe distance. When they fall in love with him they need to go immediately. He's from a rich family and his father expects him to show up at important events. Because he needs a date for all the parties he has to attend during the summer Caleb asks Didi to be his fake girlfriend to keep his father of his back. He's met Didi at an unfortunate moment, during a breakup with the last girl who'd fallen in love with him, at the country club. It cost Didi her job, but Caleb wants to make it up to her by offering her a summer of fun. She will get new art supplies out of it and plenty of interesting parties to go to and Caleb will be safe for a while. There's just one rule, there will be no love. On paper it's a really good deal, but what happens when there will be feelings involved after all?
No Love Allowed sounds like a regular love story, but it's actually much more than that. Kate Evangelista has chosen to write about a serious topic. Didi has bipolar disorder and she writes about this illness in such a fantastic compassionate way. Didi is beautiful inside and out. I think that's absolutely brilliant and it made me fall in love with her story straight away. Didi might not have stable moods, but she's fun, she's artistic, she's kind and she's absolutely fabulous. I loved how she speaks her mind and how she manages to be herself no matter what. It was refreshing to read about her.
Caleb is a sweet guy, but he's afraid of loving because of something that happened in his past. He likes Didi and likes how she can have a good time at any party and how she makes the best of every situation. He's smart, but he's also messed up. He could use some more happiness in his life. Didi can be a whirlwind and that's exactly what he needs. They're great together and even though their relationship is just an arrangement there are sparks from the start. I loved how vibrant Kate Evangelista has made her main characters and her story.
No Love Allowed is an easy read, the writing is good and Kate Evangelista's descriptions make Caleb's world and Didi's paintings come to life really well. I like that this is a love story with something extra. It has a lot of depth while it isn't a heavy read at all, which is a great combination. I enjoyed reading this sweet romantic story very much and I highly recommend it.
