100,000 Views Signed Paperback Giveaway - A Cottage in the Country and Falling: Angels Among Us by Linn B. Halton

 About Linn B. Halton

I live in a small village in Gloucestershire with the man I fell in love with, virtually at first sight. We were at a party and our eyes ‘met’ across a crowded room! My days are spent with characters who become friends and Mr Tiggs, a feline with catitude. I always knew that one day I would write romantic novels, but I never dreamed they would have a psychic twist! I’ve experienced many ‘unexplainable’ things, but it took a long time for me to accept the reality of what that means. Love, life and beyond…but it’s ALWAYS about the romance!

Suze and Anniek ‘With Love For Books’ are celebrating an important milestone for their website baby, and their passion as avid readers and reviewers! I’m so thrilled to be a part of their celebrations, not least because their support has meant so much to me on my own writing journey. So I will be toasting them both tonight and wishing them lots of success for the future, as their hard work and commitment is a real credit to them.

When they posed the question about what were the important events in MY life, my mind immediately turned to family events. Yes, writing is my absolute passion, but it took a long time for me to be able to indulge myself. First came meeting my soul mate, then having our two sons and seeing them begin their own families. My husband and I have always worked as a team, both having varied careers and swapping roles as the main breadwinner to allow us to take risks and change direction. That allowed me to move from a career in finance to designing interiors for new-build show homes, something I’d previously only done as an unpaid hobby. It was a risk at the time when the opportunity came my way, but it paid off.

And now I write full-time. That opportunity, too, came into my life like a ‘gift’. It was a career change with more risks than I could list … but both my husband and I knew the time was right – this was, finally, the ‘me’ time I’d dreamt about. I began writing full-time in March 2009 with no expectations, just a lot of passion and my starter/finisher attitude. And that’s how my first five manuscripts were written. Now I have well over a dozen published books and enough ideas to keep me writing forever!

My writing milestones are captured on my author FB page, which is a log of my personal writing journey. The first milestone was completing a manuscript – that wonderful feeling of ‘whoo hoo, I’ve done it’ is empowering. But then came a low as I realized I was saying goodbye to a group of characters I’d come to know and love. And then the process begins all over again. And again. And that’s what makes each working day such a pleasure for me.

Milestones are the successes – whether they are big, or small – receiving a lovely review; a reader sending a Tweet to say how much they enjoyed a story and when a publisher/editor says ‘yes’ to a submission. It warms the heart and I regard every step forward as a blessing. How lucky am I to be able to do what I love and connect with readers and reviewers? For me it’s the perfect job, but it’s much more than that because I’ve made so many friends online. I often feel I live two very separate lives: my ‘home-life’ family and friends on one side, and my writing/online friends/readers on the other.

I write because I can’t stop myself, but I still have ‘no expectations’. However, the readers and reviewers continue to surprise and delight me by downloading my books and posting reviews. So when I do pop my head up from my work-in-progress and look around, it really is like receiving a virtual hug. Some have become friends, although most I will never meet, or get to know at all, but they are the ones who put a smile on my face every single day.

When I toast you this evening, Suze and Anniek, I will also be sending a virtual hug and a heart-felt thank you for your support and book-love. Your reviews always seem to get to the very heart of a story and I believe that is why your visitors keep coming back for more – long may it continue!
