Thirst: Blood of my Blood by R.P. Channing

About the Author

R P Channing started writing three years ago, but never published anything even after churning out over a million words of fiction. Thirst: Blood of my Blood is the first book he dared to publish. When asked why, he said, “Because it’s the first thing I wrote that my wife actually enjoyed reading.” When not hammering away (most literally) at his keyboard, he can be found buried in a book, reading anything from romance to horror to young adult to non-fiction to comedy.

Kira has always been able to see ghosts. Even as a little girl she had imaginary friends. After a near fatal accident she finds out that her boyfriend slept with another girl while she was in the hospital. Kira takes her revenge and ends up in therapy. She doesn't like her therapist and when she gets the chance to go to Starkfield Academy she can't say yes fast enough. Starkfield Academy is a boarding school where kids go when they have been in trouble. This is not a cheap school, but it does deliver well educated young adults when they graduate. The school is closed off from the outside world. This means no internet and no cellphones.

Cory had a rough life. Losing his mother in a car accident and being abused by his father made him into who he is today. He is hotheaded and has been in trouble with the law a few times. When he finds out that his girlfriend cheated on him because he isn't good enough to fit into her rich life he sets their trashcans on fire. He feels the rage inside of him but he tries to control it before it totally gets out of hand. This time he can't walk away unharmed. He has a choice to go to Starkfield Academy or to be charged as an adult for his crimes. He chooses to go to Starkfield Academy. He's always known he wants more out of life and has always studied hard at school. Going to a boarding school would be perfect for him.

Thirst is a fast-paced story. R.P. Channing made it easy reading material with just enough information to make you turn the pages so you can find out more about Kira and Cory. There are also beautiful photos to give you a picture of some of the characters. This was such a big bonus for me. Whenever I am reading I am visualizing every detail of the story. This might not make me the fastest reader, but it makes it so much easier for me to connect with all the characters. Because of the fact that I didn't have to make up my own images it gave me more time to really get into the story.

Thirst: Blood of my Blood has it all; demons, ghosts, vampires and immortals. This book really is a gem and will keep you on edge of your seat until the end.
